Untouchable foods seem to lurk their beastly heads round every corner. But, are these foods health risks after all and could these untouchables be getting a bad rap under false pretences? Your diet doesn't have to consist of carrot and celery sticks alone. You can indulge on "naughty" foods as long as you do it the right way.
Some of these foods are as follows:
Egg
Over recent years, egg has caused much controversy and debate between food and nutrition experts. Whilst it is true that eggs contain a high level of cholestrol, it does not necessarily raise your LDL (bad) blood cholestrol level when consumed. Furthermore, consuming eggs raises the levels of good cholestrol (HDL). Eggs are now known as one of the healthiest foods on the planet and contain an amount of almost every nutrient you need for health.
Red Meat
Despite the fact that red meat has been eaten throughout evolution, it has caused much controversy amongst nutritionists and food experts. Firstly grass fed and organic meat is very different from factory farmed meats pumped with hormones and processed. Therefore, when examining the health benefits of nest, it makes a difference with regards to how the animal was farmed and how it was fed. My personal opinion is that it makes sense to eat meat that is raised and fed as close to nature as possible. That is, organic (not up mention for ethical reasons).
Red meat is very nutritious. Especially if it comes from animals that have been raised free range and grass fed. It is a great source of iron, vitamins and protein. Some of which are lacking in that of a vegetarian based diet.
Nuts
Nuts have a reputation for being high in fats. Whilst this is true, this fat is the good kind with many health benefits including fibre which balanced the blood sugar levels. 1-2 handfuls of mixed, raw nuts per day is loaded with nutrients and health benefits.
