We all have those moments when we feel down. A bit unsure. A tad insecure. But did you ever notice that the happiest people around tend to be the most confident about themselves? They seem driven by a strong force, a strong sense of self-worth. To some people, optimism and self-love come naturally while others still need to learn how to build their confidence and belief in themselves. Here are some tips to do just that.
Look Within for Your Worth
Having more material things like money, cars, or a bigger house does not necessarily build your self-worth. Actually, there are chances that once you get those things, you will feel an even bigger sense of something lacking and in return you would look for more.
To find your true self-worth, something that lasts for a very long time especially when you have nothing, you need to go within yourself. You are the only person who can build your self-esteem and value to this world. Once you demonstrate self-love, other would see the love and light in you, too.
Note Your Accomplishments
What have you done today that made you or somebody else happy? How was today better than yesterday? Did you encounter and overcome a tricky task? Your achievement does not need to be grand – when in fact, it can be more profound to recognise the smaller acts that you are proud of.
You can keep a diary or a journal by your bedside and every night, before you sleep, you can write down something that you are proud of at the moment.
Learn to Say No
It can be hard to say no to some people when you are a people pleaser. When you start doing things that you don’t necessarily want to, this will only likely lead to resentment – of the person who asked, or worse, yourself. Instead, you should practice to say no politely to the things that don’t serve you well. It can be pretty empowering!
Become Skilled in Something
Do you love painting? Or you want to learn to play the guitar? When you are practicing and becoming proficient at something you love to do, it is incredibly enriching. And as you get better with your craft, your sense of self-worth also blossoms.
Get Out and About
When we are feeling blue and down, venturing into the outside world can be the last thing in our mind. But getting some fresh air, taking a short walk or sweating up through exercise is a very powerful way to make you feel better about yourself. And the endorphins released when taking an exercise help fight depression, boosting your mood, lifting your spirits up, and helping you regain your focus.
