What is Homeopathy?

What is Eczema?
Eczema, or dermatitis, is characterised by irritated skin, with symptoms that include itchiness, dryness and a rash. It typically affects the face and scalp, hands, elbows and knees. It is thought that eczema on the hands may be caused by excessive washing of the hands, which irritates the skin by stripping it of valuable oils, moisture and protection. Eczema is thought to be triggered by a range of factors, including pollens, cosmetics, household chemicals and psychological stress. There are two forms of eczema, namely:
- Atopic eczema – this form often affects children in infancy, and may be genetically related. Some other known triggers include some foods, especially peanuts and dairy products – which are both thought to be important sources of intolerances in children
- Contact dermatitis – this form of eczema is thought to be the result of contact with irritants such as chemicals, or contact with a range of allergens which irritate the skin and trigger the eczema
Conventional medication involves applying creams to the affected area, or taking a course of oral antihistamines.
