There is a wealth of scientific evidence that demonstrates how important acid-alkaline balance is for long term health and vitality. Your acid-alkaline balance is measured on a scale called the pH scale. The pH scale ranges from 0-14 with anything below 7 being acidic and above 7 being alkaline. The healthy range of urinary pH is 6.5-7.5.
Unfortunately many people today are over-acidic, with urinary pH readings below 6.5 which can lead to a number of health concerns such as:
- Weight gain
- Toxic build up
- Fatigue
- Stress
- Pain
- Arthritis & osteoporosis
- Increased incidence of infections
Modern day diets are a major contributor to acidity within the body. The diets of our ancestors were much more alkalising than our diets of today. They were high in alkalising fruits and vegetables, whereas today's diets contain more acid producing animal foods and cereal grains. To help alkalise your body we recommend:
- Eat at least 6 serves of seasonal vegetables every day.
- Eat 2 serves of fresh fruit daily in a variety of colours.
- Eat 3 serves of protein a day such as fish, eggs, lean meat, and legumes.
- Include 2-4 serves of raw nuts, seeds and cold pressed oils in the diet everyday.
- Limit grains and dairy product intake as these are acid forming foods.
- Drink at least 2 litres of water everyday.
