If you're stuck in routine and no longer feel excited about life, it's time to do something about it! We only get one life – and it's a short one – so we really do have to get as much as we can out of it.
But how do you get unstuck? How can you free yourself up to really live? Here are 3 simple steps to giving your life a makeover.
1. Pack Up and Move
When my life was getting a bit stale, I sold all of my stuff and took off overseas. Now I know it's easy to do when you're single and mortgage-free, but there are plenty of couples and families doing the same.
It could just be a move to another part of town, or you could set yourself up in a corner of the Arctic. Even the act of throwing things away and getting ready for a move can shake things up and give you the pep you've been missing. You can also try retreats.
Of course, the saying is true that you take your problems with you. But a change of scenery – even just for a few weeks or a month – can bring about a change of perspective and get you thinking about what you really want from this life.
2. Try Something New
If Monday night is always spaghetti night, and you haven't taken up a hobby in fifteen years, it may be time to change the record!
Try something new. Sample a course at your local community college - a natural health course, perhaps. Rope a friend into going indoor rock-climbing or horse riding. Take your spouse camping or try stand up paddle boarding. You don't have to love it – heck you might hate it – but the idea is to challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone. Because comfort breeds boredom, and boredom encourages mediocrity. And no one wants to be mediocre!
3. Start a Bucket List
It sounds corny, but plenty of people do it. And that's write a bucket list. A bucket list is simply a compilation of all the things you want to experience before you – ahem – kick the bucket. It can be as crazy as you like – from skydiving to joining a nudist camp to having a food fight. Writing down your weirdest and wildest dreams is a great start to grabbing life with both hands and giving it a great big shake. Of course, the real fun starts when you start ticking off that list…
