What is Hellerwork?
Hellerwork is a type of structural integration that shifts psychological, emotional and physical patterns to relieve pain, discomfort and restore the body's natural alignment. Developed by Joseph Heller, Hellerwork is an enhanced version of Rolfing, a deep tissue bodywork modality which Joseph learnt from its founder Ida Rolf.
Hellerwork consists of 11 sessions of manual therapy, therapeutic dialogue and movement education, to address the root of the presenting problem. This modality effectively treats headaches and migraines, muscle tension, poor posture, stress and a host of chronic conditions. More importantly, it teaches an individual how to replace old movement patterns with healthier ones to support every aspect of their life.
Why Study Hellerwork?
Hellerwork is a unique form of bodywork as it helps people become aware of how their psychological, emotional and movement patterns affect not only the state of their bodies but also how they process their thoughts and emotions. Taking formal classes in Hellerwork will enable you to help your clients deepen their awareness of their mind-body connection as opposed to seeing them as separate parts.
Your newfound knowledge will take your healing abilities onto the next level, as you go from simply performing manual therapy to educating others on how to develop mindful movements to prevent illness and live healthier lives.
What Does It Take to Study Hellerwork or Become a Practitioner of It?
To make your journey to becoming a Hellerwork practitioner fun and worthwhile, consider developing an integrative mindset. This means looking at the mind, body and emotions as an integrated whole rather than as separate parts, to be able to help others achieve optimal wellness. This mindset, along with the fundamentals of structural integration bodywork, anatomy, physiology and structural alignment, can be easily learnt in an accredited Hellerwork course.
Course and Study Options for Hellerwork
A Hellerwork practitioner training program is divided into five stages, which a student must complete to be awarded a certificate and recognised as a qualified practitioner of the modality. It takes 12 months to a year and a half to complete the course which consists of classroom lectures, self-study and an internship.
Besides the principles and practical application of structural integration and somatic psychology, the course also covers subjects about marketing and business management, which will help you later in life when you decide to set up your private practice.
