What is SCENAR Therapy?
Self-Controlled Energo Neuro Adaptive Regulation (SCENAR) therapy utilises a form of electrotherapy in stimulating the body's own healing processes. It was originally developed by Soviet scientists in Russia as a diagnosis and treatment technique for astronauts while in space.
It is a small handheld device that generates electrical impulses, which, when applied to the body, transmit electrical waves that prompt it to heal itself. The device also measures the body's response to electrical impulses, and therefore provides the user with important biofeedback to support their body's self-healing mechanism.
How Does SCENAR Therapy Work?
The device used for SCENAR therapy works through the skin and uses computer-modulated, electrical impulses in stimulating the brain. The unique biofeedback capabilities and the ability to stimulate neuropeptide allow the therapy to achieve excellent healing results.
SCENAR therapy is used for treating acute or chronic pain and as an adjunct for postoperative pain. However, the following people should avoid using SCENAR:
- Pregnant women
- Epilepsy patients
- Patients with electrical implants or pacemakers
What are the Benefits of SCENAR Therapy?
SCENAR Therapy uses the body's biofeedback to understand what it needs and prompt it to produce the necessary substances to trigger its innate healing process. It is an effective approach to treating acute and chronic pain as well as musculoskeletal and nerve pain. This complementary therapy can provide relief from the following conditions:
- Sciatica
- Headaches and migraines
- Stress
- TMJ
- Frozen shoulder
- Postoperative pain
- Sports-related injuries
- Arthritis
- Back and neck pain
- Tennis elbow
- Dental pain
- Respiratory issues
- Muscle cramps
- Inflammation
What Can You Expect From SCENAR Therapy?
A SCENAR therapy session typically lasts from 30 minutes to an hour. Before it begins, the practitioner will look into your health history, identify the location of your pain and discuss how the procedure will work. The electrodes attached to the SCENAR therapy device will then be placed on your skin before the therapist starts gliding it over the affected areas of your body. Slight tingling sensations will be felt as the device emits electrical impulses onto the skin.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing as the practitioner may need to work on your back and spine. You will feel a decrease in pain level after the treatment. Some people reported a change in pain location, which is a normal response of the body to the therapy. Once these effects have waned, you will feel more relaxed, notice an improvement in your sleep and have more energy.
The number of treatment sessions you need to attend depends on the issue that you're working on, so it's best to discuss it with your practitioner after your initial treatment. Some people require at least three sessions, but those with chronic issues may need more.
Is SCENAR Therapy Safe?
SCENAR therapy is a safe, painless and noninvasive form of complementary medicine that is safe for anyone, including babies, children and elderly people. However, it is contraindicated for use in pregnant women and people with medical implants such as pacemakers.
