Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome
Autism is a disorder that usually appears within the first three years of life and affects social interaction, communication, imagination, and behaviour. Asperger’s syndrome is related to autism and sufferers have normal intelligence but poor socializing and communication skills. Other symptoms of these two disorders include repetitive behaviours or interests, unusual reactions to sensory experiences, a loss of language and social skills, not responding to their name, and poor eye contact. Treatment options include behavioral therapy, medication, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and psychotherapy.
