Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic inflammation of the sacro-iliac joints and the spine, causing pain and stiffness. Eventually, some bones may fuse together or ankylose. It is a form of arthritis. Ankylosing Spondylitis can also affect other parts of the body such as joints that are located away from the spine and organs such as the eyes, heart, lungs and kidneys. Treatment may involve drug therapy such as the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids, surgery in severe cases, physical therapy, heat therapy, relaxation (massage, meditation etc), acupuncture and yoga.
