Welcome to the Zen Yoga Central
We are based in Windsor, Melbourne and offer weekly classes and regular workshops and retreats that combine the profound physical practices of Yoga with the awakening and transformational meditation practices of Zen.
We also hold regular events such as our monthly Kirtan (chanting) group along with other social events including dinners, picnics and movie nights.
To book for one of our upcoming 6 week beginner courses please visit the course booking page.
At Zen Yoga Central our motivation is to provide a welcoming and nurturing environment that allows students to go deeply into the practise of authentic Yoga and Zen Meditation. We also aim to provide the opportunity for students to meet like-minded people, develop friendships and to feel part of a conscious and awakened community that places great importance on living in harmony with other beings and the environment.
Why practise Yoga?
The physical practices of Yoga are powerful tools that can transform our lives in many ways, and not only on the physical level. Regular yoga practise can vastly improve our health and wellbeing allowing us to become more sensitive, aware and conscious in our bodies. With sustained yoga practise we begin to awaken and cultivate the universal life-force energy within our bodies which brings not only greater physical freedom, but can also allow us more flexibility, clarity and creativity within the ordinary workings of our mind.
Why practise Meditation?
The word 'Zen' translates as 'meditation' or 'meditative mindfulness' and it is through the practise of meditation that we can experience an inner joy and freedom that is not dependant on anything outside of ourselves, regardless of what is going on in our lives. Thoughts, feelings, emotions and sensations all arise within a deeper purity of mind which is always still, calm and free even in the midst of turmoil or trauma. With regular meditation practise our minds become clear and stable and we can find and experience our true centre.
Traditionally the physical practices of yoga are just the beginning steps on the yogic path, and what is necessary to enter into the higher practices within the eightfold path of yoga and zen is the sustained practice of deep meditation.
Meditation, why bother? With correct understanding and practise of meditation you can transform your angst into that which liberates you. Life's design is meant to be erotic, not neurotic!"
