The most simple modern day definition of mindfulness is “paying attention to the present moment” in other words, being mindful of what is happening to and around you in the moment, moment by moment. Just like our bodies, our minds need training to function at their best. Mindfulness meditation is a form of mental training that enables the mind to become focussed, clear and efficient. This includes learning how to regulate thoughts to give the mind rest from its constant chatter, including disengaging from thoughts and feelings that are about the past or future, such as negative memories or anxiety about what is ahead.
Practising mindfulness can relieve tension, reduce anxiety, aid in stress management , reduce the negative effects of stress, enhance sleep, improve immune function, halth and wellbeing, enhance efficiency and performance and many other benefits.
