What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils to improve overall well-being. It uses natural plant extracts to help relieve stress, promote relaxation, alleviate burns and infections, improve insomnia, boost energy and more. 

Essential oil therapy, more commonly known as aromatherapy, can help you process your emotions by reconnecting your senses back to Mother Nature. This brings in a sense of stability, ease and balance.  

How Do Essential Oils Work and How to Use Them?

Essential oils work through inhalation and skin absorption. You can use it with a carrier oil or body lotion for massages or pour drops of it in a diffuser to inhale its aroma. 

Which Essential Oil Should I Use?

There’s a different essential oil you can use depending on your need. Each essential has its own property, use and effect. 

If you want to feel calm and relaxed, lavender, chamomile and geranium oils are recommended.

If you want to boost your mood, try ylang-ylang, rose, neroli or clary sage oil.

If you want to decongest, eucalyptus, tea tree or pine oil can do the trick.

If you want to feel energised and motivated, bergamot, ginger root and grapefruit have energy-enhancing properties. 

Precaution When Using Essential Oils

Generally, essential oils are safe to use. However, because of the concentrated substances they contain, they can cause allergic skin reactions, asthma attacks and headache. 

Pregnant women and children must also be cautious when using essential oils.

Before using essential oils, do a skin patch test or consult your doctor if you’re taking any prescription medicine.

Dilute them with carrier oils and don’t apply them directly to your skin.
