ACUPUNCTURE
According to Chinese Medicine our vital energies or "Qi" courses throughout the whole body, especially along certain channels or "meridians". This Qi is directly linked to all of the functioning of the body, and each meridian has a direct effect on the local area, related internal organs and the energetic systems of the body.
The Qi also concentrates in certain areas or "points" along these channels, and by the insertion of needles into these points, certain effects can be applied to the meridian Qi and consequently to the energetic system of the body.
This method of "Acupuncture" can be used to remedy ill health throughout the whole of the patient from the internal organs, skin and muscles as well as the emotions and the psyche.
CUPPING, GUA SHA & MOXIBUSTION
Cupping, Gua Sha and Moxibustion can all be considered adjunct therapies to acupuncture or therapies in their own right.
Cupping involves heating the inside of glass cups to create a vacuum and then placing them on the skin to create a suction effect. Used statically or dynamically, these cups draw out toxins and tension and allow for greater flow of Qi and blood.
Gua Sha involves the gentle rubbing of a porcelain tool on the skin. Like cupping, Gua Sha draws out toxins and tension, and is especially useful when releasing externally contracted sickness such as cold and flu, as well as emotional stress.
*Both cupping and Gua Sha bring blood to the surface of the skin and leave harmless bruise-type markings that usually fade in under 1 week.
Moxibustion makes use of prepared mugwort leaf or "Moxa". Moxa is set alight to smolder and either held close to an acupuncture point, on top of an acupuncture needle or on top of ginger, garlic or salt. Moxa burns with a resonance similar to the natural resonance of our Qi, and penetrates deeply, supplements and moves the Qi as a consequence. Moxibustion is useful in the treatment of many different ailments from the muscle layers to the internal organs, and all of the energetic systems of the body.
