What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the centring practice of purposefully focusing on emotions, thoughts, feelings and sensations occurring in the present moment.
What is meditation?
Is a state of complete thoughtless awareness. Those who practice meditation use different techniques to achieve such state.
The number of scientific studies that are pinpointing the benefits of such practises are growing exponentially. There are countless benefits to a regular mindfulness and meditation practice, including normalisation of blood pressure and weigh, improved immune functions, improved memory and ability to focus and concentrate. And the list goes on.
What does a mindfulness/meditation class involve?
You will walk into a welcoming room and choose a comfortable sit for yourself. You will then be invited to close your eyes. You will then be lead into a mindful state though a guided mindfulness practice. At the end of this, you will have a choice to move or adjust, or stay seated where and as you are. You will then be taken through a guided meditation practice. At the end of the night, you will gently be brought back to the full awareness of room.
Participants to our classes have reported high levels of relaxation (with the majority stating that their level of relaxation was a “10 out of 10”).

If you would like to learn some simple tools and techniques that will help you more deeply connect with yourself and with others. Linda is currently running a weekly Mindfulness and Meditation Class on Mondays, from 12.30 to 1.30 pm. This class is run during school terms at the Virginia Todd Hall through the Geelong West Neighbourhood House.
