Psychotherapy equips you to develop self awareness and personal empowerment to move through issues causing suffering or unhappiness, in a confidential and safe enviroment. Many people do not know exactly what it is that is causing their suffering or how to move through it. Through the process of talking, reflection, listening, tuning in to the body and exploring one's feelings you can begin to understand and gain insights into yourself and the external situation.
Unconscious patterns and beliefs from childhood often impact on our life as adults. Psychotherapy can help you to identify these patterns and belief systems so you can then create new and healthier ways of relating to oneself, others and the world around us. Like discarding that which no longer serves you and replacing it with ideals and values which reflect the 'real' you. When one is comfortable with oneself, then true happiness can flow.
I am interested in the area of Trauma and work with clients experiencing Complex Trauma. Trauma experienced in our past can impact significantly on how a person reacts and responds to others in relationship and certain events in life. When traumatised an individual may find they dissociate by numbing or not inhabiting their body/mind/soul fully. I use methods such as breathwork, mindfulness and gentle meditation to help the client embody themselves more fully if that is an area they wish to explore.
I work mainly with individuals in therapy, but do work with couples in dealing with relationship issues if I feel it will be of benefit.
