Psoriasis is seen often between the ages of 20 - 60 years, however it can be seen in infants, where it may be recognised as seborrhoeic dermatitits or psoriasiform diaper dermatitis.

The cause is metabolic, as it affects the entire body, not just the skin. Psoriasis can pre-dispose the person to vascular occlusive conditions such as stroke, heart attacks as the cholesterol and uric acid levels of psoriasis sufferers are at the high end of normal.

Stress is a major component and will bring out the psoriastic lesions and make existing ones worse. 

Psoriasis mostly affects the arms, elbows, legs as well as the scalp and back of neck, fingers and toe nails. Furthermore, intestinal mucosal changes occur in psoriasis and this may aggrevate nutrient short falls.

Nutrients of benefit in this condition are: Folic acid, Vitamin A, B12, Selenium, Zinc, Glucosamine, Essential Fatty Acids, Lecithin and Vitamin D.
