Relaxation massage is primarily to for those who want to induce a relaxation response for the body. Relaxation massage is often referred to as “Swedish Massage” and both terms are interchangeable.

Relaxation massage may seem basic, but don’t be fooled by this. Relaxation massage techniques have many benefits, including increasing oxygen in the blood, and removal of waste products from the body as a result of increased circulation, and gently reducing some tension in the muscle tissue.

The relaxation massage techniques itself incorporates soft gliding and flowing strokes, circular movements, kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction, or vibration/shaking of the muscle tissue. It tends to be performed with a mild to medium pressure.

Relaxation Massage can be offered as a stand-alone treatment if the client’s primary aim is purely to relax and I do use relaxation massage techniques during a remedial massage. In this case the techniques are primarily used to warm up muscle and tissues before applying more specific remedial techniques to remediate your pain / tension / injury.
