Relaxation Massage

What is a relaxation massage?

Most massage treatments will relax you, among other things. With a relaxation massage, relaxing you is the only aim. A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will leave you oozing with a sense of wellbeing. It achieves this because of the general benefits of massage: it improves your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; it moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better. A massage will also help un-knot any muscles, soothe aches and sprains and encourage the skin to heal minor abrasions. This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled!

Afterwards

The benefits of one relaxation massage can last days, but you need to give it a chance to do that. Try not to plan any hectic activity immediately afterwards. You will probably feel like having a lie down - listen to your body! It can seem surreal and is probably pointless, for example, to go straight back to work if you are feeling so relaxed you can hardly speak!

Deep Tissue

What is a deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a faster paced massage which aims to warm the muscles more deeply in order to be able to work more effectively on deeper layers of muscle tissue without damaging them. This form of massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as relaxation, but the pressure will generally be more intense. Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue and aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas. Trigger point work is often used in deep tissue massage to help break up adhesions in the muscles.

Afterwards

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

Remedial Massage

What is a remedial massage?

Remedial massage uses various massages techniques to help relieve pain and stimulate healing in a specified body area. Techniques are used from both relaxation and deep tissue massage. Other techniques often used in remedial massage are tapping and "pounding" techniques which stimulate the muscles; stretching muscles and ligaments; and joint mobilisation which helps to lubricate joints and increase range of movement in the area.

Benefits of Remedial Massage

Key benefits of Remedial Massage include: the stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation. Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions often addressed with Remedial Massage include Fibrositis, Spondylitis, Arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, Whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries. Sessions usually take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the whether you wish to address a specific area or give a whole body massage.

Afterwards

Remedial massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two. Depending on the severity of the condition being treated, follow up work will probably need to be done to gain the full healing benefits of remedial work. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

Pregnancy

What is a pregnancy massage?

Massage can be very beneficial during all stages of pregnancy. The changes within the woman's body, and the growing baby can cause many different aches and pains. Using a pregnancy bolster set over the regular massage table, women are able to lie on their stomach for treatment though all stages of pregnancy. The top section of the cushion can be removed to prevent extra pressure on tender breasts, while the abdominal section allows for the growing belly to be supported without causing pressure on the baby within.

Infant Massage

Parents are discovering that massage can help their child settle, sleep better, reduce crying and relieve problems such as wind, colic, constipation, reflux and eczema. It even helps reduce post-natal depression. Massage is more than just relaxation. Learning the right massage techniques is vital to ensure that both you and your baby experience the many benefits that massage can provide.

Classes cover topics such as suitable oils for your child's skin; how the muscles develop at different stages; the best time to massage; reading your child's body language cues to better understand what they need; as well as suitable strokes for each body area.

Learning infant massage is best applied by a parent or carer as the child will feel most relaxed and comfortable with them and can be a wonderful opportunity for both parents to bond with their child.
