"Three things are foundational in providing a spiritual service: 

1. The most important is to care. If the practitioner doesn't care, nothing good will happen.
2. Secondly, the spiritual counsellor must see and understand where the person is developmentally, their blockages, and how to best help them move forward. This empathic and largely psychic ability is often born within someone, as it was within me. However, the ability automatically increases in all spiritual seekers. 
3. Thirdly, we must be sincere, dedicated, and devoted practitioners of the spiritual path ourselves. Without a strong presence of the Divine in us, we cannot help other people to ignite that presence within them. The Divine in the practitioner is the very thing that helps people to heal, grow, and gain their happiness.
