About

We are a clinical hypnotherapy/coaching/mentoring practice based in the Berwick, Officer and Pakenham areas (south east of Melbourne) and dedicated to helping and empowering those who seek to remove obstacles and blocks to a happier healthier and more fulfilled life

Smart Thinking is an accredited member of the Australia Hypnotherapy Association, as well as being registered on the National Hypnotherapists Register of Australia.

All areas of life can benefit from hypnosis, and, by talking with us about your objectives, and being open to the benefits of hypnotherapy, you can turn your life around for a better future.

Weight Management

At Smart Thinking we recognise, that, the thing about successful long term weight loss is that so often, it’s first necessary to “Lose Weight from the Mind” by addressing any underlying and unresolved issue(s) which have hitherto sabotaged efforts at sustainable weight management.

As part of our armoury, we are also “Certified Virtual Gastric Banding Practitioners’’ (as per the Sheila Granger method) an innovative and effective non surgical approach to weight management

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

For the purposes of hypnotherapy, hypnosis may be understood as a state of focused attention to enable a direct conversation with the subconscious through which an agreed objective(s) between the therapist and client can be achieved. Weight reduction, relief from anxiety, pain relief, and quit smoking etc; would be typical of the more common conditions for which hypnotherapy is utilised.

Most people don’t realise that, the subconscious mind is not programmed to determine the truth or otherwise of the data it receives, or indeed, even if such data is actually real. For instance; although the conscious analytical brain understands and agrees, that smoking is a dangerous, unhealthy and expensive habit; the subconscious makes no such judgment, and therefore continues to promote that which it has been trained (programmed) to accept by repetition over a prolonged period of habit forming smoking. Such embedded behaviour is why many people, although on a rational conscious analytical level wishing to quit, will often give into that nagging little voice urging them to have “just one more smoke” or “I’ll give up tomorrow” attitude, because the subconscious doesn’t wants to easily give up that habit it’s been so “lovingly nurtured’ and trained to recognise and automatically respond to.

The objective of hypnotherapy therefore is to align the clients’ subconscious thoughts with those of their analytical conscious mind to achieve the desired objective and thus the conscious and unconscious minds are supporting each other, and so to speak, singing from the same hymn sheet, to bring in to being those changes requested by the client.

Why Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is an effective, physically non invasive way of tapping into the sub conscious mind, where many of life’s negative habits are first established, usually following an initial misinterpretation of a particular situation or experience.

Although, negative thought patterns and habits can and do emanate from a single life experience, more often, it’s due to being repeatedly told, either by others, or even by ourselves, that a particular proposition must be ok or true, which of course, is not necessarily the case at all.

As an example of installing subconscious thinking; when we first learn to drive or carry out some other complex task, it’s only after very many repetitions and practice, that the skill is suddenly and imperceptibly mastered and absorbed, without need of a conscious thought. Our responses are so well programmed into the subconscious, that the whole process becomes automatic or second nature to us.

And so it is, that all behaviours and habits, both positive and negative, good and bad are imprinted deep within the subconscious mind, to such an extent, that, on a day to day basis, their controlling influence over our actions doesn’t even register

However, whilst the seat of unwanted and negative habits, feelings and emotions reside in the subconscious, like an unruly and unwanted tenant who pays no rent; it’s a paradox of nature, that the very same subconscious mind, also possesses an astonishing reservoir of unrecognised and thus untapped knowledge and power with which to kick out the freeloading tenant to change lives for the better.

Fortunately, new cutting edge hypnotherapeutic techniques are now available to challenge and disrupt unhelpful patterns of negative thought, and replace them with new ways of thinking. Just remember - ‘YOU ARE WHATEVER YOU THINK YOU ARE;’ so you need to be “Smart Thinking” in the way we handle life’s unwanted negative habits.

THERAPY IS INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED TO YOUR NEEDS.

Whilst hypnosis has been shown to be an effective tool in dealing with a myriad of medical and psychological conditions, it may require several or more sessions to achieve best results. Indeed, like any other form of therapy, including medical and surgical procedures, the results will vary from one individual to another but frequently hypnotherapy brings about a rapid response, not found in other forms of psychotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is usually conducted one on one in a private confidential session, and is also available to corporate and other groups for relaxation or motivational work etc.

Hypnotherapy has applications for almost any condition and listed below are examples of some of the more common issues.
