Class Schedule
Anusara Yoga
Anusara Yoga is heart-oriented and spiritually inspiring, yet grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment for both the inner and outer body. It is a uniquely integrated style of yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of biomechanics.
Intro to Yoga
Learn the basics as you experience the benefits of different types of Yoga poses (standing poses, balancing poses, back bends, forward bends, and twists), pranayama (breath work), deep relaxation, meditation, and some simple philosophy.
Morning Express
Start your day in the best possible way – with gentle movement and focused breath work. You will move through morning sun salutations followed by a series of standing, balancing, twisting and seated postures. Suitable for all levels. Tea served after class.
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa classes cultivate energy awareness, attention to alignment within flow, a strong body and mind, and clarity within.

About Us
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha Yoga refers to a set of physical exercises known as asanas or postures, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body, especially the main channel: the spine, so that energy can flow freely. There are many different styles of Hatha Yoga. You may have heard of Iyengar Yoga, Anusara Yoga, Bikram or “Hot Yoga”, Astanga Vinyasa Yoga, Power Yoga. All of these different styles are actually varying forms of Hatha Yoga.
Hatha is also translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” This refers to the balance of masculine (active & fiery: sun) and feminine (receptive & calm: moon) aspects within all of us. Hatha Yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting contrary compliments. In our physical bodies we develop a balance of strength and flexibility. We also learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose.
Hatha yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. The practice of Yoga enhances contentment and joy, and facilitates living with greater awareness, wisdom and grace.

Julie Smerdon
Julie is a certified Anusara Yoga ™ instructor, who knows from experience the transformation brought about by a dedicated Yoga practice. After dabbling in Yoga in the 1990’s, Julie became a serious student in 1999, when a medical crisis nearly cut her life short.
Though Yoga, Julie learned that she could love her broken body; and could trust its innate ability to heal. In 2002, she met John Friend for the first time and was immediately captivated by Anusara Yoga’s passionate approach to both Yoga and life. Julie is blessed to have been able to study extensively with both John and Desiree Rumbaugh, and is eternally grateful for their gifts in her life.
Her other teachers of note include love, loss, heart surgery and children; and she is also thankful for the lessons they’ve imparted.
Known for her humour and enthusiasm, Julie’s passion in teaching is to empower her students; helping them to love their bodies and use their perceived limitations to experience their limitless potential.
