Chiropractic for Children
The curvature of the spine is developed in the first year of our life. As are the length and tension relationships between muscles and between flexors and extensors.
To help with healthy development of your child’s spine Shirley Rd Chiropractic makes the following basic recommendations:
- Encourage your child to crawl – this assists the development of their brain and coordination between muscles in the lower back that contribute to their good spinal curves.
- Don’t encourage your child to walk too early – walking prematurely may decrease the amount of crawling your child does and may place unnecessary stress on their developing spine.
- Avoid the use of a vertical baby pouch when your child can not yet stand – their spines are unable to take vertical loads as their muscles, strength and coordination are still underdeveloped.
Key ages of development where children can be assessed for motor development progress:

- At 3 months
