Relaxation (Swedish) Massage

This type of massage is designed to gently stimulate blood flow, relieve tension and provide you with a feeling of relaxation. This is a slow and gentle style of massage, however the pressure and techniques used are modified to each patients comfort level and requirements. Before beginning the massage, the therapist will check your preference for firm or light pressure and if there are any areas of the body that require special attention, for example if you have particularly stiff shoulders, or are suffering from tension headaches. Most people will opt for a 60 minute treatment, however a 90 minute session is also available which allows more time to work the muscle tissue and achieve results.

If it is your first time receiving a massage, or if your goal is relaxation or general tension relief then this is the perfect style of massage for you.

Deep Tissue Massage

This is a more intense style of massage, using firmer strokes, with the aim of working more deeply into the underlying muscles as well as the more superficial structures. Many of the techniques used are the same as a relaxation massage, however the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper, concentrating on certain areas of tension and pain. The massage therapist may use knuckles, elbows and forearms as well as hands and fingertips during a deep tissue treatment.
Remedial Massage

Remedial treatments involve manipulating soft tissues, particularly muscle tissue to achieve a specific therapeutic effect. Treatment may incorporate various techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and mobilizations.

The treatment process involves assessment of the presenting problem, including thorough questioning, postural assessment and range of motion testing before beginning any therapeutic work. The treatment is adapted for each individual based upon their specific requirements and presentation.

Remedial massage is designed to promote healing and return to health following injury or certain musculo-skeletal disorders, as well as providing relief for those presenting with general work or sports related muscle soreness. It can be used to treat chronic pain or musculo-skeletal imbalance, sprains, strains (such as repetitive strain injury), or following broken bones or injury to promote blood flow and repair. Treatment can remove blockages, damaged cells and adhesions resulting in quicker recovery and more complete healing and can successfully provide pain relief where other treatments have failed. Most clients will feel relief very quickly and often immediately following treatment.

This style of massage is not intended to relax the patient but rather to fix a mechanical problem, relieve pain, treat muscle soreness or improve range of motion.
