Personal Development
Are you sick of being broke, exhausted and worried?
Do you feel your life is going nowhere? Feel like you’re treading water? Worse, like you’re sinking in quicksand?
It’s so depressing when your career is stuck in a rut, everything around you is a mess, you feel like you’re facing it alone, the bills are mounting and you can’t see any way out.
The more anxious you get, the less clearly you think and the deeper you sink. And even when things are looking good on the outside, it’s a whole different story on the inside. Isn’t it? Well, you are not alone!
You no longer need to struggle solving all these problems. By following the techniques contained in the Right Way Up© program you will find your life changing for the better. Unlike the many self-development courses on the market, let alone the highly expensive motivators, Right Way Up© is all about you experiencing changes which last a lifetime. It is not about being pumped up for a few hours and then returning to your usual thought patterns. You are changing how you think for good. You are constructing new foundations for your life. TRY RIGHT WAY UP©!
Vocational Testing
Vocational Testing at Self Growth Institute is a personalised process to help you identify your career path and appropriate training. It is conducted by Jenny Story, a very experienced psychologist. The tests she uses are restricted and available only to psychologists. This is because the standardised nature of the tests requires specialised training for accurate interpretation. The thorough, objective testing process Jennyconducts is a very useful basis for recommendations on work and further training.
Vocational testing at Self Growth Institute is an individualised process, typically taking around four hours. It is often conducted over two appointments, but some clients prefer up to four sessions. If you are travelling from country areas, the whole process can be scheduled a given day.
In the first appointment, Jenny will discuss your work and training history and your objectives for testing. Jenny will then ask you to complete a personality test in which the character traits measured relate in a straightforward way to fields of employment.
A second test looks at your preferences for a range of profession-related activities. A third pair of tests assesses aptitude for different types of reasoning.
Anger Management and Control
The goal of anger management is to reduce both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger causes.
Domestic abuse, road rage, workplace violence, angry and irrational outbursts that could lead to divorce, and repressed anger that could have underground roots to addictions are just a few examples of what can happen when anger is mismanaged.
Anger in itself is a normal and healthy emotion in people.
We need our anger in order to establish healthy boundaries, to say “no” when we need to, to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm and to motivate us toward making positive changes.
Nevertheless, anger can also be harmful and destructive when it is misplaced and expressed inappropriately. If you frequently experience anger, it probably built up over a number of years before you got to where you are today.
Stress Management Group
A Mindfulness and Meditation based Program for Stress Management
This 6-week group program is suited for clients with stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain and sleep-related issues and teaches the participants basic relaxation, mindfulness and meditation practices aimed at building resilience to deal with stress, anxiety, and day-to-day issues.
Relaxation, meditation and mindfulness can lead us to an inner space of awareness and presence. By becoming more present to ourselves, our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, we can make new choices in our life rather than reacting out of old patterns.
Therapy: Group, Individual and Sport Psychology
Group psychotherapy or group psychological therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which one or more therapists treat a small group of clients together as a group.
The term can legitimately refer to any form of psychotherapy when delivered in a group format, including Cognitive behavioral therapy or Interpersonal therapy, but it is usually applied to psychodynamic group therapy where the group context and group process is explicitly utilized as a mechanism of change by developing, exploring and examining interpersonal relationships within the group.
The broader concept of group therapy can be taken to include any helping process that takes place in a group, including support groups, skills training groups (such as anger management, mindfulness, relaxation training or social skills training), and psycho-education groups.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences at times. Many people feel anxious, or nervous, when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. Anxiety disorders, however, are different. They can cause such distress that it interferes with a person’s ability to lead a normal life.
An anxiety disorder is a serious mental illness. For people with anxiety disorders, worry and fear are constant and overwhelming, and can be crippling.
Counselling for Children and Adolescents
All children/adolescents have their ups and downs and go through all kinds of thoughts and feelings as they grow up. They all have their difficulties. But, with the back-up of those around them, most cope well enough. Some, however, don’t do so well. Things get on top of them so that they feel overwhelmed by pessimistic views of life, feelings of depression and anxiety.
We provide a variety of techniques and methods to help children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with their emotions or behavior. The sessions may involve an individual child or accompanied by members of his family.
Psychotherapy/counselling is often used in combination with other treatments (medication, behavior management, or work with the school). The child or adolescent must feel comfortable, safe and understood. This type of trusting environment makes it much easier for the child to express his/her thoughts and feelings and to use the therapy in a helpful way.
Couples Counselling
Couples therapy is very successful in bringing a couple closer to each other, by working through areas of conflict and rebuilding or reinforcing the connection, intimacy and partnership.
Our team of highly experienced, professional counsellors will help you explore and enhance important relationships in your life.
The key is a commitment to the relationship, and a commitment to work, to openness, and willingness to grow and if needed, to making some adjustments in one’s actions and attitude.
Talking to one of our counsellors can help you to think about issues in different ways and then begin to make changes that can seem so daunting initially.
