About Us
Sandra Villella is a naturopath, herbalist and acupuncturist. She graduated from the Southern School of Natural Therapies as a naturopath in 1993. Sandra practised at Melbourne Holistic Health Group (formerly Clifton Hill Natural Health Centre) for 18 years before moving her practice around the corner to her current location.

In 1999 Sandra complemented her practice as a naturopath by completing a Masters of Applied Science in Acupuncture. Her minor thesis was on the subject of the effects of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine on infertility caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Sandra has a family naturopathic practice. She consults with young children, teenagers, men and women of all ages up to the elderly. Sandra has a special interest in the management of women's health from puberty; through the reproductive years and pregnancy; and a particular interest in women's health during the peri-menopausal years.

She is a consultant naturopath at the Jean Hailes Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation providing important services for women from adolescence to mid-life and beyond. The Jean Hailes Foundation is regarded throughout Australia as a leader in women's healthcare and Sandra has been working at the Foundation since 1999. Amongst her many roles there, she conducts consultations at the Jean Hailes Medical Centre for Women, and is available for appointment. As part of the Jean Hailes' team, she presents seminars to the general public on midlife women's health and also educated GPs and other health professionals throughout Australia on the evidence-based and traditional naturopathic management of the peri-menopausal women. Sandra also assists with the development of educational resources for the Foundation's website for use by the general public and health professionals and creates simple health-focused recipes with educational messages which are published in the Foundation's national magazine bi-annually.

Through her work, Sandra has developed working relationships with several health professionals including medical specialists and GPs, whom refer patients to her, and to whom she can comfortably refer patients to. This collaborative health care approach is beneficial for patients allowing for a more comprehensive management and supports them in their choice to access natural therapies alongside medical treatment.

Sandra's love of food inspires her to give advice to her patients of all ages, from toddlers to the busy professional, on simple ways to incorporate good nutrition as part of their treatment or to better their health.

Throughout her professional career, Sandra has been actively involved in the education of the general public to improve the awareness of the value of a healthy lifestyle and information on complementary medicine. She has lectured to a number of groups in this capacity. She is also a popular speaker at naturopathic and herbal medicine conferences and has presented papers around Australia and in New Zealand.

Sandra lectures final year students at Endeavour College in Advanced Herbal Medicine and Advanced Nutrition and Diet Therapy.

Recipes

These recipes have been created with the intention of being simple, nutritious and tasty. As many people are time poor, cooking can become less of a priority. The dishes are designed to be easy to source (often what may already be in the fridge or pantry), easy to prepare and easy to cook.

All of the recipes have a description of the health benefits of the ingredients or the meal. Some of the recipes are variations of old favourites – like pumpkin soup, which you prepare with chickpeas, for additional protein, more fibre and to help to minimise blood sugar rise after a meal. Others are using ingredients that some people do not usually experiment cooking with- such as tofu or quinoa; and then some were created with particular health benefits for certain patient groups.

  • Sardines with tomato and green beans
  • Apple and Blueberry Tofu muffins
  • Summer barley salad
  • Cauliflower and cannellini soup
  • Fragrant lamb and vegetable mince and Quinoa with Roast Beetroot and mint
  • Granola
  • Pear Chocolate Crumble
  • Pumpkin and red lentil sweet muffins
  • Quinoa breakfast fruit and seed loaf
  • Quinoa Porridge
  • Quinoa Salad
  • Roast pumpkin chickpea soup
  • Roasted pumpkin tofu curry
