ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomical points in the body (called acupoints or acupuncture points) for therapeutic purposes. The acupoints are stimulated to balance the movement of life-force energy called qi (pronounced chee) in the body to restore health and prevent disease.

Does It Hurt?
Unlike hypodermic injection needles, acupuncture needles are solid & hair-thin; they are not designed to cut the skin. They are also inserted to much more shallow levels than hypodermic needles, generally no more than a half-inch to an inch depending on the type of treatment being delivered. We only use needles that are high-quality, sterile, once-use only products.
While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation as the needles are inserted, but different points on the body elicit different sensations.
What Should I Expect On My First Visit?
As with most health practitioners, the first visit to an acupuncturist usually begins with the practitioner taking a detailed history. Since TCM takes a more holistic approach to patient care than Western medicine, Sohial or Hamish may ask you questions that appear unimportant (questions about your sleep habits, your ability to tolerate heat or cold, your dietary habits, etc) but these are actually vital to the type of care you will receive.
The goal is to assemble all the jig-saw pieces of information into one coherent picture allowing us to determine the most appropriate personalized treatment for you.
In addition to asking questions we will also ask to see your tongue & will feel your pulse on both sides of your wrist. Tongue & pulse diagnosis is a method of observing how your body is functioning internally, similar to iris diagnosis used by Naturopaths.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
The number & frequency of visits depends upon several factors such as the duration & intensity of your condition; your age & general constitution; your response to treatment & your willingness to do things to help yourself (taking prescribed herbs, doing exercises, making suggested lifestyle changes).
Chinese medicine is effective because it makes very specific subtle changes to your body's energy system. The effects are accumulative so compliance with a suggested treatment schedule will maximise your chance of improvement.
LASER ACUPUNCTURE
Laser Acupuncture usually uses low-energy laser beams, instead of traditional acupuncture needles, to influence the flow of current at the acupuncture points. Laser acupuncture is an effective procedure for the treatment of painful conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, arthritis of the knee, and chronic headache in children.
Our procedure is typically aims a beam of light from a laser tube onto an acupuncture point, stimulating it similar to the way acupuncture needles do. The laser beam, usually heats up the acupuncture point.
During the laser acupuncture procedure, a practitioner may hold the beam steadily on an acupuncture point for a period that can range from ten seconds to a maximum of two minutes. The duration of the beam usually depends on the amount of tissue the laser must penetrate, and the power the acupuncturist needs to apply on a point.
Laser Acupuncture is an ideal treatment for children, or those apprehensive to needle treatment.
TRADITIONAL CUPPING
TRADITIONAL CUPPING refers to an ancient Chinese practice in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (by using change in heat or by suctioning out air), so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, causing a regional pulling of the skin and muscle (the technique is called gliding cupping).
There are many benefits of cupping, some of which include:
- 1. Improves blood circulation
The application of cupping therapy improves the circulation of blood throughout the body. As a result sufficient oxygen reached the body cells for cellular oxidation, releasing good amounts of energy for various physical activities.
2. Stimulates the digestive system
Cupping therapy stimulates the working of digestive system, as a result of which better digestion of food takes place. The metabolism of the body improves and more energy is available for body activities.
3. Clears blockages in the colon
When cupping therapy is done on the body, it aids in clearing the blockages of the colon. As a result toxins accumulated in the colon and excretory passages get removed. This may help prevent the occurrence of serious and fatal diseases like colon cancer.
4. Aids to activate the lymphatic system
Practicing this therapy on one's body helps to activate the lymphatic system of the body. As a result there is improved circulation of blood to different body cells and tissues.
5. Helps to release toxins
The human body is a complex system of reactions that occur continuously. As a result of these reactions toxic and harmful substances are produced, the presence of which might lead to cause many diseases. These harmful and toxic substances should be removed from the body, if one wants to stay healthy. Cupping therapy causes the body cells and tissues to release toxins and prevents then occurrence of many serious and lethal diseases. Removal of these substances also delays the ageing process.
6. Improves flexibility
Cupping therapy makes the body flexible for various kinds of physical activities.
7. Helps to treat many diseases
This therapy has traditionally been used for the treatment of many diseases like colds, high blood pressure, high fever, sciatica, joint pains, Muscle spasms, stiff shoulders, arteriosclerosis, lung infections, and strokes.
