About Me

Since completing my Bachelor of Health Science in Chinese Medicine at the Southern School of Natural Therapies, I have been able to pursue my interest in treating health conditions from the root cause, and assisting the body’s natural healing responses.

I have worked in a centre for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, which had a strong focus on supporting and restoring mental-emotional health, giving me essential experience in this area.

My passion in the field of health and how the body functions from a Chinese Medicine perspective is shown in my interest in treating a wide variety of health conditions. However, I have a special interest in digestive health, women’s health, emotional health and fatigue.

I also advocate and provide advice about Chinese Medicine dietary therapy including the benefits of using food as a first line of medicine and health preservation.

Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is a healing modality that has formed from empirical clinical knowledge over thousands of years. It is a holistic medicine centered on the belief that all systems of the body are connected and therefore need to be in balance to remain in optimum health.

With an intricate diagnostic system that allows for tailor made treatments, Chinese Medicine holistically heals the entire body’s interconnected systems. Using herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, dietary therapy and basic life style advice we aim to restore the body back to balance naturally.

Chinese Medicine can also provide solutions for people who have health conditions that can’t be properly diagnosed but still feel that something is wrong.

Herbal Medicine

I am passionate about herbal medicine and believe it is an essential part of Chinese Medicine. Herbs will do a wonderful job in restoring your body back to health naturally and without side effects.

All of the herbal ingredients I prescribe are sourced from non-endangered plants and animals. The majority of herbs used are plant based, however, a small number of animal based products are also used. If the client is vegetarian/vegan herbal formulas can be easily adjusted.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into points along meridians or energy channels in the body. By stimulating these meridians acupuncture can correct imbalances in the internal organs that are causing anything from infertility, low immunity or digestive issues, just to mention to mention a few. It is also used to relieve local pain such as arthritis, sports injuries, RSI’s or chronic pain conditions.

Acupuncture is not painful, however the patient may experience a number of sensations during treatment. Once the needle is inserted you may experience a localised buzzing/tingling feeling, a dull ache or even a distending feeling. This is a sign the acupuncture point is activated.

Each needle is sterile and single use. Many people find acupuncture relaxing and restoring.

Dietary Therapy

Chinese Medicine has its own unique dietary therapy that is used as part of a patients integrated treatment plan.

Chinese dietary therapy differs to Western nutrition as it is personally tailored to the individual’s health requirements and constitution from a Chinese medicine perspective.

Each food flavor corresponds to an organ and its function. Therefore food cravings can often indicate which organ needs attention. Dietary guidance is simple and easy to follow and is often one of the most effective ways of promoting the body’s natural healing response.

Gua Sha / Cupping / Moxibustion

Gua sha involves moving a ceramic spoon along oiled skin to release any muscle tension and toxins built up in the body. Gua sha is typically used prior to cupping treatments.

Cupping involves the placement of heated glass cups to create suction in areas of the body that have muscular tension. This technique improves blood flow and oxygen to the area and moves local stagnation. It also removes pathogens and toxins from the body and sedates the central nervous system. Many people experience a great sense of relaxation during this treatment.

Moxabusition/heat lamp is used to add warmth to an area of the body or acupuncture point to increase the qi and blood circulation to the region. It involves the burning of mugwort (ai ye) or the placement of a heat lamp near the acupuncture point.
