About Us
RecWest Footscray
RecWest Footscray is a community based Recreation Facility that aims to provide members of the Maribyrnong municipality with participation opportunities. With a range of programming options for people of all ages and abilities, there is sure to be something available for everyone in your family.
Despite being an ageing facility, RecWest Footscray has a rich, ever evolving history. It once housed the largest basketball club in Victoria, all from a 1 court stadium, and was previously an aquatic facility, complete with pool and sauna!

The RecWest History
The YMCA is Australia’s largest Youth and Recreational organisation and has been providing services in Australia since 1853. A non-profit organisation controlled by Voluntary Directors who work in partnership with professional staff, the YMCAs of Australia continue to provide a vast array of services and programs which are responsive to the needs of the community. Celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2003, the YMCA continues to serve local communities with great pride, distinction and enthusiasm.
RecWest Footscray (formerly Footscray YMCA) was established in 1961 and provides the local communities of the western suburbs, especially those located in the Maribyrnong City Council municipality, with a tremendous range of programs and services catering for all people and all ages. The multi-purpose facility located in West Footscray. RecWest Footscray and RecWest Braybrook are community recreation centres are owned by the City of Maribyrnong and managed in partnership with YMCA Victoria.
Both centres provide health and wellness opportunities to all types of people throughout the Maribyrnong region including Footscray, West Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Yarraville, Seddon, Kingsville, Tottenham, Braybrook and Sunshine.
RecWest offers Sports Development programs for juniors, sporting competitions, a community health club, group fitness classes, outside school hours care (OSHC), school holiday programs and facility hire. RecWest operates a diverse portfolio of services designed to connect individuals, families and communities, including Youth and Family Services, Disability Services, Recreation Services and Community Facility Services.
