What Can We Fix?
Pioneer Podiatry specialises in diagnosing and treating foot pain and leg pain
Heel Pain
This is the most common condition we see at Pioneer Podiatry, with at least 5 to 10 cases per day. In our clinic, we specialise in diagnosing and treating this condition, and have a special focus on cases that have been chronic and difficult to fix.
Arch Pain
Enormous load goes through the sole of the foot, thousands of times each day. It's no wonder sometimes the tissues and other structures can get a bit sore!
There are several usual suspects to blame for pain in the arch area. Correct diagnosis is essential to get rid of the pain.
Knee, Hip and Back Pain
Did you know...that many problems in the knees, hips, and lower back can be traced back to poor foot posture and function? If your feet are doing something wrong, this will directly affect how your knees, hips and lower back will function, in a bad way. At Pioneer Podiatry, we work as a team with other health care and medical providers to fix these problems everyday.
Ankle Pain
Ankle pain can be caused by various problems, and are often due to misalignment in the bones of the rear foot, or ankle complex.
Ankle pain is common in active children with flat feet, and in adults as they get older.
Ingrowing Toenails
If you've had an ingrowing toenail, you'll know all about how painful this condition can be!
Fore foot (Ball of foot) Pain
Who would have thought that so many problems can occur in our forefoot?
At Pioneer Podiatry, we treat a wide range of problems associated with forefoot pain and deformity. The small area of the ball of the foot takes our whole body's weight with each step, and it's understandable that this can sometimes go wrong and cause injury.
Bunion Pain
A bunion (also referred to as Hallux Valgus) is often described as a bump on the side of the great toe. The visible bump reflects changes in the bony framework of the forefoot with the great toe leaning towards the second toe, rather than pointing straight ahead.
Although bunions are not always symptomatic, they are a progressive disorder that can be easily treated by one of our podiatrists.
Shin Pain (Shin Splints)
Shin pain is the terror of many who are learning to run or are getting active again, or just pushing their training levels for an event.
Flat feet / Collapsing Arches / Over-Pronation / High Arches
There are many terms used to describe a low arch foot type. It accounts for about 60% of the population, and can include a variety of complaints
Running & Sports Injuries
Most people have no idea whether or not they are running correctly, however when an injury occurs – they know they must do something about it.
Generally, we only seek treatment once an injury occurs but at Pioneer Podiatry we can provide advice improving mechanical performance to minimise injury and to maximise efficiency.
With the use of a computerised video gait assessment we can quickly determine whether your foot and leg alignment and stability is sufficient for performing your particular activity.
Women’s Foot Health
Women tend to suffer more regularly from foot pain and are also more vulnerable to certain foot problems. This is largely due to the wearing of narrow fitting shoes that squeeze the toes together and from high heels that cramp the forefoot and pose risk for arch and ankle problems.
Women are also more prone to getting foot and ankle problems such as bunions, Morton’s Neuroma, Metatarsalgia, Plantar Fasciitis or heel pain and ankle sprains.
There is no need to suffer in silence. Talk to one of the team today about fixing your foot issues.
Chronic Pain & Arthritis
The problem with chronic pain and arthritis is that it is easy to become accustomed to it and there are many people who live with pain unnecessarily.
It is important to see your podiatrist if you suffer from any form of chronic pain or arthritis in your feet and lower limbs. At Pioneer Podiatry, we use simple, effective techniques and devices to encourage the body to effectively manage daily demands and increase its capacity to do more. With a thorough personalised assessment and treatment plan, we can help you better manage your symptoms, slow the disease progression and improve your quality of life.
SERVICES
Custom Foot Orthotics (Arch Supports)
At our Mackay and Sarina clinics, we are able to design and make orthotics that are comfortable and very effective at treating many of the most common foot injuries. Custom orthotics are suitable for people of all ages and walks of life, from little kids, to avid sports people, to weary workers, to mature matriarchs!
Custom orthotics are very useful for conditions such as heel pain (spurs), arch pain, and leg pain, among many other conditions. As we are the only profession exclusively trained to use orthotics to treat injuries, private health funds recognise this and will generally cover this treatment under your "extras" cover.
Video Gait Analysis
At Pioneer Podiatry, we use this advanced form of motion analysis to assist in diagnosing complex motion related issues of the foot, ankle, knee, hip and lower back.
Video gait analysis is particularly useful in helping to diagnose conditions associated with running or sport, as well as painful foot and leg conditions that are termed ‘overuse’ in nature. This assessment is routinely performed by our specially trained podiatrists during this form of consultation.
Ingrowing Nail Surgery
If you've had an ingrowing toenail before, this problem needs no introduction! At Pioneer Podiatry, we specialise in the best and most painless treatments for this condition. We can give you instant relief for most cases, and we also have permanent procedures to prevent it from ever reoccurring.
Podiatrists are as qualified to treat ingrowing nails as dentists are qualified to fix a toothache! Don't suffer with unnecessary pain any longer.
Extracorporal Shockwave Therapy
Pioneer Podiatry is the only practice in the Mackay region to offer Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for the effective and long lasting treatment of many foot and leg conditions, including heel pain, heel spurs, Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis.
ESWT delivers focused shock waves to the body. It ensures a gentle and efficient treatment with pneumatically (compressed) generated shockwaves, which are transmitted into the area of pain through a handpiece.
Clinical Acupuncture/ Dry Needling
Dry needling is an effective treatment used to treat musculoskeletal (muscle, joint, bone, or fascia) pain. Once this pain becomes chronic, it is often associated with tender ‘trigger’ points (musculoskeletal trigger points) usually situated in the muscle belly, muscle insertion, muscle-tendon junction or fascia. At Pioneer Podiatry, clients can experience this painless, effective treatment for their chronic pain.
Foot Mobilisation Therapy (FMT)
Foot Mobilisation Technique is a treatment that uses gentle, pain free mobilisation of specific foot and ankle joints that may have become stiff and lack normal movement. Regular FMT aims to gradually restore proper movement and get the feet working the way they should. When your feet function correctly, everything works better!
FMT works best when it is combined with stretching and strengthening exercises and, at Pioneer Podiatry, we often use it in conjunction with Custom Orthotic Therapy for improving treatment results.
Sports Podiatry
The feet are one of the most important factors in good sports performance. Foot and leg injuries are very common in sports and we specialise in treating many, many, many athletes every week with lots of injuries (foot, leg, knee, hip, everything!).
If an injury in your foot or leg is slowing you down, come and see us for a comprehensive assessment. In sports medicine, we use video gait analysis to assess your running style to pinpoint the specific issues that may be contributing to your injury. This allows us to confidently treat the actual cause of your injury, and not just mask the symptoms.
Footwear Prescription
It can be hard to get good footwear advice! Sometimes you walk into a shoe shop to see a huge wall with hundreds of different styles, designs, and colours! How do you make the right decision for your feet, your sport, your job, your life?
Easy. Come and see us, the foot health experts, for a full assessment and footwear prescription. We have a network of great footwear suppliers and we can source specific shoes for really tricky feet.
Clinical Podiatry
As podiatrists, we have seen absolutely everything that could ever go wrong with a foot. Our clinics provide the full scope of clinical podiatry including comprehensive foot assessments, various treatments and surgery. We provide diabetic foot assessments, we treat corns and calluses, we love fixing ingrowing toenails and we diagnose and treat skin conditions such as Tinea Pedis (athlete’s foot/fungal infections), psoriasis, among many other things.
If your feet need help, let us know.
Diabetic Risk Assessment
People with diabetes are at a higher risk of getting serious foot complications. The good news is... all diabetic foot problems are preventable! And, as they say, prevention is better than cure!
If you want a team of highly experienced podiatrists to manage your diabetic foot care, give us a call at Pioneer Podiatry. We accept TCA EPC Care Plan referrals from your doctor. If you need any details about this scheme, please call our clinics.
