About Me
I grew up exposed to the idea that your health can be taken care of through a combination of conventional medicine and alternative medicines working together. I am excited to see ideas evolve and change (in mainstream medicine), during my nursing career. This includes the acceptance and embracing of complementary medicines, such as aromatherapy being used in Geriatric and Oncology wards, or Bowen Therapy being employed to help mothers and babies with breast feeding issues, colic and Plagiocephaly (mishapen heads in infants).
I have worked in the nursing field for over 25 years, and during that time I have worked in a range of nursing environments, from large metropolitan hospitals to rural health settings. I have worked in many different roles including Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and Nursing Educator. I have nursed in specialties such as palliative care, neonatal intensive care, orthopedics, rehabilitation and even as a civilian nurse working for Defence. I have enjoyed being able to work between my nursing and midwifery roles, and am extremely happy that I can incorporate my alternative therapies with my Midwifery & Nursing.
Bowen Therapy
Is a highly under rated therapy that was development during the 1960's in Geelong Victoria by Tom Bowen.
Using gentle muscle movements to realign the body’s muscles, fascia and connect tissue, this therapy helps the body to heal itself
Bowen therapy is gentle enough to use on new born babies, and can help with injuries which may have occurred during birth.
This modality can be used to treat and support a large range of medical conditions including:
- Bed wetting
- Stress
- Menstrual / Fertility problems
- Menopause / Hormonal Issues
- Migraines / Headaches
- Breast feeding / Baby Attachment / Mastitis
- Sports Injuries
- Back / Knees / Hip Pain
- Scoliosis
- Frozen Shoulder
- Ligament / Muscular Tear
- Tennis Elbow
- Pelvic Alignment
- Neurological Disorders
Reflexology
Reflexology, practice mainly on the hands & feet, is a form of relaxation.
According to Dwight Byers the definition of reflexology is that ‘reflexology is a science that deals with principle that there are reflex areas in the feet & hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs & parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method using the thumb & fingers on these reflex areas.
Reflexology includes, but is not limited to:
- Relieve stress & tension;
- Improve blood supple & promote the unblocking of nerve impulses;
- Help nature achieves homeostasis’
Face/scalp & shoulders massage
Reflexology isn’t just about feet or the hands. Just wait until you try having your face/ head and shoulders massaged. Once you’ve tried it it’s the only thing you will ever ask for.
Tissue Salts
I have worked with Tissue or cell salts for over 20 years for myself, family, friends and animals.
The 12 Dr. Schüssler Salts can help you to give your body the essential minerals it needs. They restore your body's mineral balance – for the sake of your general well-being and your health.
Dr Schussler was convinced that:
- The human body contains 12 vital minerals (tissue) salts, a proper balance of which is necessary for normal cell function & for the maintenance of health,
- Missing inorganic mineral salts would result in illness, ‘if you add the missing mineral salt, you normalize the cell metabolism’
Bach flowers / Flower Essences
Many people know of rescue remedy and the feedback of how effective this simple solution can be, especially in times of crisis. However many people are not aware of other flower remedies or the wonderful healing potentials these essences hold. Bach flowers / and other flower essences can be used safely and effectively by every member of the house hold including the family pets.
In addition to Bach Flower Essences, I also work with Australian bush essences and American flower essences.
Metamorphic
Metamorphosis can help with:
- Irrational fears and anger issues
- High stress levels and lack of direction
- Physical disorders or illnesses
- Self sabotaging patterns
- Difficulty in taking the next step
- Problems standing up for yourself
- Self esteem /imagine problems
- Mental/Emotional imbalances
- Compulsive or addictive behaviour
Midwifery
With over 20 years of midwifery experience, I have experienced environments ranging from rural Queensland to metropolitan Sydney and Melbourne. I am enthusiastic about being able to share my passion for alternative therapies with my midwifery colleagues, my clients and their families.
I love the fact that Bowen Therapy can compliment my midwifery practice, assisting with anything from back pain, carpal tunnel, infertility, nausea & splint rectus (DRAM) in pregnancy to assist mothers & babies with breast feeding issues including mastitis, colic and Plagiocephaly.
