About Overall Wellness
The Logo
Before I introduce myself, I'd like to explain about Overall Wellness and the logo and what it signifies. To start with, the three leaves in the centre symbolise the synergy of mind, body and spirit. The three leaves combined in the shape of a drop, refers to the work of essential oils on the elements of our mind, body, and spirit. The outer circle is the zen sign, that is said to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create - your path, your goals. It embodies absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance and the universe. Another interpretation I love is that it relates to the concept of beauty of imperfection. For me, this translates into love, acceptance and being who we are, in the here and now, with all our beautiful imperfections.
Why Overall Wellness
For those who don't know me, my name is Amal, I'm a married mum of four beautiful children who is on a journey to attaining and sustaining overall wellness. Sounds cliché I know but this is where I am right now - I have attempted this path in the past and have achieved both success and failure but
the failure has always been attributable to a lack of consistency and accountability, not necessarily a failure of the method or approach I used at the time. Throughout this journey, I have discovered the amazing therapeutic and healing powers of essential oils which have been an amazing boost to my health on all levels. Essential oils have helped me and my family in a multitude of ways and allowed me to realize that going back to basics is a blessing in disguise. Yes, I am a dōTerra wellness advocate but my goal is not to sell anything to you. My passion lies in showing you how to utilise the beauty of nature’s healing tools and to empower you to take charge of your physical, mental and spiritual health.
So what is different this time? I have finally realised that it's not a one size fits all approach, rather a way of life achieved through making small changes where it's needed, and applying them over and over again. I have also found that our mind, body, and spirit need to be healthy for them to be aligned and in sync. When one part is struggling, it ultimately affects the other two either directly or indirectly. I want to encourage everyone to realise that the formula for wellness is not complicated but it does require a conscious effort. I am on this journey myself and hope that by helping myself I can also assist others on their pathway to achieving the same.
In a nutshell, Overall Wellness is all about sharing my journey with you, while celebrating the highs and embracing and working through the lows.
Thank you and welcome to Overall Wellness!
For The Mind
The most important facet of overall wellness is having a healthy mind. We often underestimate the power of the mind and the multitude of factors that can influence your mental well being. Whether we are going through depression (regardless of severity) or feel a little blue now and then, we continue to seek more ways to be "happy", to thrive and maintain the elusive "healthy mind." The problem lies in wanting a quick fix, a one-size fits all approach by simply watching a few YouTube videos or one or two of a plethora of self-help books that guarantee to set us straight. My theory and approach is simply to treat our mind like we do our body: we need to feed our minds only things that are healthy, nutritious and nourishing and most importantly, take time out to exercise it. Fill your mind with healthy information, discussion and some quiet time for reflection. Give your mind the time to hurt, process and heal, in its own time. Allocate time to meditate and practice mindfulness to assist with relieving stress, open your mind to new strategies that may work - don't limit yourself to just trying conventional methods. Two relatively new and innovative approaches are the implementation of positive psychology and mindfulness-based stress reduction. Both approaches may seem simplistic on the surface but they are quite profound when put into practice. Achieving and maintaining a healthy mind doesn't have to be difficult.
For The Body
“Nourishment of yourself is the best preventative medicine currently available!”
This statement by John Travis and Regina Ryan in their iconic wellness manual, “The Wellness Workbook” is something we need to remind ourselves of on a daily basis. We need to nourish our mind, body, and spirit to stay healthy. Maintaining a healthy body involves a number of factors, the most important of which is the consumption of healthy, nutritious food. We need to also remember that there is a direct link between your state of mind and your eating habits. If your mood is low, your eating is erratic and void of thought. When you are feeling positive, you are more conscious of what you eat and tend to savour your food more. A healthy mindset is the essence of a healthy body.
For The Spirit
Nurturing our spirit is essential for maintaining a healthy mind and body. Immerse yourself in actions and thoughts that let you connect to your soul and fill it with peace and harmony. Read, pray/meditate, and allow some time every day for feeding and nourishing your spirituality.
