We are passionate about our work - whether it be individual or couple counselling and are 110% committed to helping you achieve your desired goals.
Our promise to you is that we will continue to develop our knowledge, tools and handouts along with world-wide best practices - and that you, the client, will always receive the very best of support and help possible.
Couples Counselling, Marriage Guidance, Hypnotherapy, Ego State Therapy
Although relationship counselling has become a speciality area for us, two of us are also qualified hypnotherapists and also see clients for Hypnotherapy and Ego State Therapy.
Our role is to help facilitate change, whether with individuals or with couples.
With couples we help to re-establish meaningful communication, and to gain commitment by both parties to embrace the desired outcomes.
Relationship Counselling is the most complex and difficult of any counselling to undertake. Two individuals - with different backgrounds, personalities and life skills ...
and who often have two different agendas as well, means that as a counsellor you have to be able to draw on a huge range of modalities, techniques and strategies to help them.
Individuals come to counselling to change themselves - and when committed to their desired outcomes can achieve amazing things.
Couples - at the outset - come to counselling to change their partners. However, real understanding and insight into each other has to be gained, while defensiveness and blame has to be dropped, for real progress to be made.
At NorthSide Counselling we have continued to develop and update our methodologies and materials over the last 10+ years, and we continue to do so in line with international findings and developments - in particular with the Gottman Institute for our Relationship Work.
The Gottman Relationship Institute
John Gottman, who founded the Gottman Institue, is regarded as one of the top 10 influential psychologists of our time.
The findings and methodologies of the Institute are based on 30+ years of scientific research, and their training is run world-wide.
At NorthSide Counselling we base our work around their model, having attended their training.
However, we have adapted their materials to suit the Australian culture, but still primarily use their direct, educational and interventionist approach when helping couples.
On our website you will find many articles about individuals and relationships. You are welcome to print off and use any that you find useful.
Call us at NorthSide Counselling, we are there to help you.

Neil Buckley
Neil has a Grad Dip Counselling , Dip Clinical Hypnotherapy, Cert IV NLP Practitioner, Cert IV Telephone Counselling, Dip Teach.
Neil currently works with a range of clients including individuals, couples and families. He likes to utilise a combination of counselling methodologies - including Hypnotherapy (where appropriate). Neil takes a solution focussed approach, helping clients manage their lives in a positive and productive manner.
Neil has over 25 years experience. He worked in various corporate training/HR roles for several large multi-nationals in Australia, UK and NZ which then led to working with individuals one on one. From there he went back and studied counselling prior to setting up NorthSide Counselling in 2002.
Neil is the father of three teenagers, a learning experience in itself and something that cannot be taught from a book. Neil believes that achieving a balanced life is very important - keeping active both in mind and body is important. Neil likes to run, surf and practice yoga on a regular basis.
Sometimes part of the counselling process involves helping clients change their lifestyle.

Karen Adams
Karen has a Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling), Solution Focussed Therapy.
Karen currently works with adolescents and families as well as couples who are experiencing difficulties across a broad range of issues. Karen utilises a strengths based solution focussed approach in assisting clients to facilitate change where required. As part of the process, she helps clients to really understand the contributing factors that have led to the current situation, enabling other solutions such as compromise and acceptance (where appropriate) to be part of way forward.
Having immigrated to Australia with her husband and two daughters in 2003, Karen has a special interest in families who have also relocated, as she understands the challenges and loss that can be associated with such a seemingly positive relocation.
Karen has been involved in counselling a wide range of issues from loneliness and depression, to relationship issues and mental health. She is interested in stress and its reaction on normally well functioning individuals.
Karen works in a way that enables clients to feel truly valued, forming a therapeutic alliance in the pursuit of happiness. “There is nothing more seductive than being truly listened to.”
Dyanna Hunt
Dyanna has been working with individuals and couples for over 12 years, offering support to clients in a trusting, confidential and caring environment - enabling couples to rebuild happy and fulfilling relationships, while providing them with skills and assistance in facing life’s many challenges, such as depression, anxiety, anger management and addictions.
She is passionate about general well being and issues arising from change in one’s life, such as job loss, divorce, grief or coping with the trauma associated with abuse or following an accident or incident ... which so often impact our relationships.
Dyanna’s belief in the powerful body/mind connection developed after watching her own son battle depression and her strong desire to instill change in one’s belief system lead to many years of learning, study and meditation, including Pranic healing, then traveling to Argentina where she learned the ancient healing techniques of Seichim.
