What is Natural Medicine?
Natural Medicine is a system of medicine that views the person as a whole – a holistic approach to health, medicine and well-being. The fundamental principles of Natural Medicine are based in the belief of the healing power of nature – vix medicatrix natureau.
At Nature’s Harvest, our Natural Practitioners offer caring personalized services, seeing each patient as an individual entity.
Our Natural Practitioners look at the connections between mind, body and spirit. We identify imbalances or dysfunction in these systems and how these imbalances manifest as symptoms of disease or illness.
The primary concern of a Natural Medicine is to treat the CAUSE of disease, and for this reason Natural Medicine consultations go into detailed history of the patient. Modern Natural Medicine has strong fundamentals in scientific method. There is a strong growth of recognition of Natural Practitioners as important health care professionals and part of integrated medical teams.
The role of a Natural Practitioners is diverse. An important goal is to be an educator to patients. We at Nature’s Harvest aim to empower our patients to make better decisions regarding diet and lifestyle, which lead to healthier, happier lives and the prevention of disease.
Our Natural Practitioners see their patients as playing an integral role in their own personal health journey, through taking individual responsibility for healthier choices. In modern times, healthy diet and lifestyle are often forgone for fast-paced lives, which are dominated by stress and refined foods. These environmental conditions lead to diseases of lifestyle such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and multiple nutrient deficiencies.
This makes Nature’s Harvest a perfect setting in Cottesloe for you to start you healthier journey, with access to a range of artisan and specialised health foods including raw, gluten free, organic, superfoods and nutritionally balanced options for alternative diets.
As Natural Practitioners, we do not use chemical drugs in our treatments, but instead formulate individualised prescriptions that can include herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, homeopathic remedies, flower essences, dietary changes and lifestyle counselling (sleep, behaviour, habits, exercise etc). At Nature’s Harvest, our Natural Practitioners has access to a full herbal dispensary and all practitioner range products, we are always at the front of new therapies and products that may support the best possible path to healing.
Remedial therapies such as massage and relaxation techniques are also used by our Remedial Massage Therapist at Nature’s Harvest, to complement holistic healing.
What will happen when I visit a Natural Practitioners?
Your first consultation with one of our Natural Practitioners will usually take between 1 and 1 ½ hours. A thorough case history will be taken including family and personal health history, diet & lifestyle assessments and investigations of physical signs and symptoms including iridology, nail and tongue analysis. Exposure to environmental toxins, stress and emotional health are usually discussed during this time also.
Depending on the reason for your consultation, your Natural Practitioners may then investigate further through comprehensive testing which can include standard Biomedical pathology testing (usually routine blood tests), but also functional pathology and metabolic testing methods such as stool, urine or saliva analysis, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA), or other investigations.
