What is Cranio Sacral Therapy?
Cranio Sacral Therapy, although likely a continuation of hands on healing since ancient times, stems from the work of osteopath William Sutherland who developed Cranial Osteopathy (in the 1930's) and osteopathic surgeon John Upledger who developed Cranio Sacral Therapy (in the 1970's).
A highly trained Cranio Sacral Therapist such as Upledger himself, really is a quantum medical practitioner, outside mainstream scientific thinking, yet at the cutting edge of how to remove trauma from the body, how to shift stuck emotional states, to appreciate tissue memory and release it, how to assist and encourage the natural healing and release mechanism of the body, all while working for and with the inherent intelligence of everybody.
How does it help?
Cranio Sacral Therapy combines knowledge of anatomy with holistic and gentle techniques.
You are a whole being, a whole body, mind and being, layered in complexity, and your situation is unique to you. What is happening in your body in relation to your symptoms, emotions or well being is also unique to you.
Using gentle techniques, I tune into your central nervous system (brain and spinal chord) and from there out to every part of your body.
An important focus in a treatment is the parasympathetic/ relaxation division and its' twin the sympathetic/ fight or flight division, in order to balance the action of these on your body.
Relaxation is also important because it is in this phase that your body's natural ability for healing and release comes to the fore. The techniques of a qualified Cranio Sacral Therapist are gentle and work deeply into bones, membranes and tissues. The central nervous system is flushed and nourished by the increased movement of the cerebro-spinal fluid, lymph is circulated and a treatment results in a sense of increased vitality and well being in the subsequent few days.
Being prepared to commit to a program of treatments is helpful as cranio sacral therapy, although profound, takes time. The treatments help your body to return to a natural way of functioning; you grow into your healing process. The treatments 'remind' your body of good, efficient functioning. It can take a few reminders, as layers of restrictions fall away, until your body holds and settles into the new way of being.
What does it help?
Cranio Sacral Therapists are trained to take on a wide range of health conditions including those that are chronic, severe, involve deep trauma or are relatively rare, e.g. facial palsy. As well as those that are not necessarily health conditions at all like pregnancy, post-natal support and nurturing baby.
We are especially successful with trauma, patterns caused in birth, accidents and injuries, recovery after surgery and conditions pertaining to the brain and central nervous system, cranial and spinal bones and membranes and the cranio-facial area ( facial bones; injury, failure to grow, the temporomandibular joint ).
Treatments are available for;
Pre and post natal care, Post natal depression, well-being of babies, reflux, colic, sleeping and feeding difficulties, compression of the skull after birth, car accident injury, whiplash, occupational injury, back pain, neck pain, migraine and headaches, chronic pain, joint disorders, sciatica, frozen shoulder, TMJ problems, dental problems,digestive problems, lack of energy, CFS, fibromyalgia, Anxiety, depression, stress, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks post traumatic stress, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, tantrums, bed-wetting, behavioural problems, learning difficulties, the autistic spectrum.
Emotional Release
