What Do We Offer?
The Mindfulness Project offers residents of Melbourne the opportunity to take part in the classic 8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program. Developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and taught around the world, the 8-Week MBSR course has been featured on Oprah, practiced at Google, and talked about at TED.
Benefits of Mindfulness Training
More than three decades of research have found that the majority of people who complete the 8-week MBSR course report:
- Increased energy and enthusiasm for life
- A lasting ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations
- Major improvement in anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, relationships and productivity
- Lasting decreases in difficult physical and psychological symptoms
- Reductions in pain levels with an enhanced ability to cope with enduring pain
How Does It Work?
MBSR does this, in part, by helping us to:
- Increase our sense of peace, clarity, and well-being
- Learn to respond more calmly to life events
- Foster a more positive state of mind
- Live more fully in the present, rather than in the past or future
- Cultivate compassion for both ourselves and others
- Observe with kindness and without judgement, our thoughts and emotions
- Recognise our negative habits, patterns, and beliefs
What Does Completeing The Course Involve?
Weekly sessions include:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
- Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life

About The Course
In this 8-week course, you will discover how to integrate and apply mindfulness to your everyday life and to the range of challenges arising from daily life stressors. The course is a systematic, intensive training in mindfulness meditation and mindful Hatha yoga. It is appropriate for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Each week for eight weeks, we meet for two to two and a half hour sessions. Toward the end of the course, we gather for a one day mindfulness program, which usually takes place on a Sunday. Classes are limited in size to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate.
Graduates are invited to attend future day long meditation sessions for free.
Together, over the course of the 8 weeks, we gain a deeper understanding of stress. We learn skills and techniques to manage it with greater ease in our daily lives. We focus on the experiential cultivation of positive health behaviours and developing psychological and emotional resilience for life-long stress management.
