What is the aim of your massage therapist?

The fibres in your muscles stick together when they become knotted and tight. New blood flow is denied to these areas and will thus result in a build-up of waste products that would normally be removed when new blood circulates through these areas. These excess waste products will then bring about pain being experienced in your affected muscle/s as well as referral pain to different areas of your body.

The overall aim of massage is to restore optimal functioning to the muscle by removing adhesions in muscle tendons and fibres. This helps to enhance blood circulation allowing for new blood to move through bringing in much required nutrients and oxygen whilst additionally alleviating deoxygenated waste products and blood from the affected area.

Massage stimulates the release of endorphins, which are the brain chemicals that produce a feeling of happiness and wellbeing, whilst simultaneously reducing the levels of stress hormones, such as cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones negatively impact the immune system.

Massage is recommended for:
  • sporting injuries
  • back pain
  • circulation problems
  • whiplash injuries
  • muscular tension
  • nervous exhaustion
  • headaches/migraines
  • sciatica
  • frozen shoulder
  • carpel tunnel syndrome
  • post-stroke
