About
Massage helps people to sleep better at night, soothes sore muscles, increases the range of motion (allowing you to lift your arms higher, touch your toes easier, or rotate your head better). Massage warms the muscles, stretches the muscles, and informs the body that something is wrong; this sends the (big word) lymphocytes (white blood cells) to the area and helps to heal the body.
Massage dehydrates your muscles, hence you may have heard that you should drink water after a massage. You can have a foot massage, head massage, stomach massage, gluteus maximus massage (buttocks), chest massage (upper chest muscles), or any of the regular muscles, all you need to do is ask.
How does massage work?
Massage is performed in an order. Your therapist will start with some long strokes, followed by what we call kneading. Kneading warms the tissue up, you always want to work on warm muscles. (This is why hot stone massage is so good).
After kneading your therapist can break down knots, adhesions and scar tissue; they can stretch your muscles resulting in an increase of your range of motion.
Your massage will signal to your brain that something isn't right, which will activate your body's healing mechanisms. Massage decreases the amount of water in your muscles, so it is important to drink water afterwards.
