What is massage

Massage targets the skin, muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments of the body. It can be defined as bodywork, manual therapy, or manipulative therapy. Todays’ massage therapies are considered complementary forms of healthcare. Historically, these therapies have their roots in ancient healing practices.

Beneficial effects
  • ease muscular tension
  • improve postural balance
  • relax the body
  • calm the mind
  • calm the nervous system
  • uplift the spirit
  • improve our sense of wellbeing
On a physical level, muscular tension can be significantly reduced, knots eased, circulation improved, pain reduced, and balance or calm can be supported in the nervous system.

Massage can also bring about positive changes or therapeutic effects in the emotional, psychological, and spiritual bodies through the mind-body connection, the sense of touch, and by being in a serene, nurturing environment.

Types of massage

Relaxation Massage: soothing massage for deep relaxation of body, mind, and spirit, generally involving the whole body

Swedish Massage: soothing and invigorating massage for body, mind, and spirit

Deep Tissue Massage: targeting specific areas of the body for deeper techniques to bring about specific therapeutic effect, such as easing muscular tension in neck and shoulders, easing mid thoracic pain, easing lower back pain, myofascial spreading, and postural improvement

Thai Yoga Massage: a gentle and extremely relaxing massage that melds TCM principles with Thai massage and Yoga stretches (stretching is done to you by the practitioner while the muscles are relaxed)

Reiki Therapy: an ancient Japanese healing art based on the principles of channeling universal energy to bring about a sense of deep relaxation and wellbeing (the practitioner gently lays their hands on the client at different positions while the client lays supine)

Combination Massage Therapy: any of the above combined (time permitting)
