What is clinical hypnotherapy?
- Hypnotherapy is a natural way of working with the body and mind to bring about positive change. When using hypnotherapy, you will be gently guided into a state of deep relaxation and an altered state of consciousness or trance.
- The experience is a little like the feeling of being guided through a daydream…tapping into the subconscious to make positive changes in behaviour, thoughts and attitudes. As each person is unique, the therapy used will depend on your wellbeing and circumstances.
- You may also be taught self-hypnosis during sessions, so that you can enhance the session by practicing at home…
- While experiencing or imagining situations during hypnotherapy, new neuropathways are being made and this leads to a positive change in behaviour and ways of thinking.
What does Hypnosis feel like?
- During the session you (or your child) will experience a state of mental, physical and emotional relaxation. It can be similar to the feeling you have just before you drift off to sleep or before you fully wake. It is quite similar to daydreaming. I will guide you to relax the body and focus on your breathing and as it becomes slower, your heart rate slows and you gently relax. The body’s temperature decreases, so you will have a blanket over you to keep you warm.
- You will be able to hear my voice at all times and you are able to speak and communicate with me at any time during the session, even under hypnosis.
- Have you ever been driving along and arrived at your destination, when suddenly you realise you have no recollection of actually driving there? Did you go through red lights or stop signs? You were simply on auto pilot or in a trance. There are many other times during your day when this trance like state happens, like being totally immersed in a really good book or movie or an activity that you love….so that is also a type of self-hypnosis.
Hypnosis – Can I be made to do or say anything against my Will?
- During a Clinical Hypnotherapy session, you cannot be hypnotised into doing or saying anything against your will. You cannot be forced into a hypnotic state. Instead, you allow yourself to be hypnotised. It is a voluntary altering of your own consciousness.
- When in hypnosis, the conscious mind (that busy, critical, analytical part of the mind) takes a rest. Hypnosis allows you to tap into the information and resources that lie in the subconscious mind and make positive changes to thought patterns, habits or the effects of incidents that are having a negative impact on you either mentally or physically.
Will I be allowed to stay with my child during the sessions?
- Of course you can stay with your child. During the session I will speak with your child in a way that makes sense to them, monitoring and ensuring that they feel comfortable and safe at all times. They will be free to talk about what they are experiencing and what is happening for them in their world.
- As parents, we may have a different experience or perception of what is happening with our children, and you may wish to discuss details or history without your children being present. For this reason, some parents choose to have a private session beforehand.
How long do the sessions go for?
The first session goes for approximately 1 ½ hours so that we have time at the beginning of the session to go through the overall history and wellbeing of you or your child. Any future sessions go for 1 hour.
Can I claim my treatment on Private Health Insurance?
Clinical Hypnotherapy can be claimed through some private health funds if you have Extras cover, please ensure that you confirm this with your fund.
