Dr Rachael Spooner can assist you.
Rachael is a warm and empathetic psychologist with a strengths-based approach. She is skilled in providing effective individual treatment to a diverse range of clients, particularly adults and older teenagers (aged 17+).
Rachael has experience working in various clinical settings including private practice, outpatient hospital clinics, community services and crisis mental health care. This experience helps her bring effective, person-centred support to her clients, by working collaboratively towards resilience, self-determination, and self-advocacy.
Therapy with Rachael
Rachael has a unique and respectful approach to providing therapy with clients – firstly, she follows a strengths-based approach which means that she looks for the unique personal strengths in the person she works with that can be harnessed to promote growth and well-being. For instance, she might build on a person’s strong communication skills to enhance their interpersonal relationships, or draw on previous times of resilience that may help them navigate current difficult life circumstances. This is a highly empowering style of therapy which builds on existing inner resources and ultimately enables clients to overcome both current and future challenges effectively.
Rachael also works from a holistic and transdiagnostic approach to mental health and wellbeing. In this approach, a diagnosis, such as depression, is not the same for everyone. Rather, Rachael’s focus is on understanding the underlying psychological, biological, and social processes that contribute to mental health issues for each unique person. This means that treatment is tailored to consider individual differences and based on the specific needs and circumstances of each individual. Because her approach is holistic, Rachael aims to promote overall well-being and functioning.
Finally, Rachael prefers an integration of multiple therapeutic modalities: her approach draws from various evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy and Sensorimotor Therapy. Rachael integrates techniques and strategies from these modalities to provide a comprehensive treatment approach that targets both specific symptoms and broader underlying factors.
