Kaltequine offerings;

For those with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with their horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem, as well as emotional well-being and relaxation. The sense of independence found from the equine / human relationship benefits all our clients.

The Supported Healer Programme #kaltequine

The Supported Helper Programme involves including children, teenagers or adults with AOD, special needs or other in everyday equine care tasks such as mucking out stables, grooming, bringing ponies in and out of the fields, and other tasks associated with the care and management of ponies and horses. It helps to give clients a sense of responsibility, promotes independence and encourages a positive self-esteem and confidence through activities like grooming, leading the horses, making feeds, tacking up etc.

All activities are ground based and suited to the client’s needs and abilities. Supports are tailored to the learning style and ability of each person and staff to participant ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3.

A recent evaluation of the Supported Helpers Programme highlighted its main benefits to participants included:

Connecting kids sessions

  • Boost Confidence

  • Increase Self Esteem

  • Learn Social Skills

  • Understand the impact you have on others

Horses are great at responding to our behaviours and attitudes. This allows kids to have immediate feedback and helps them to become more aware of the impact they have on the people around them. Equine Assisted Learning helps kids become more aware of themselves. Working with the therapeutic horses gives children opportunities to practice new ways of relating to others without judgement or criticism.

Kids Connecting sessions boost confidence and self-esteem. Kids learn mindfulness and relaxation techniques and learn to apply them to situations in their lives. The program assists them in working with their anxiety and depression, obsessive thoughts, or other issues.

The kids have an opportunity to develop social skills by working as a team. They practice getting along with others, listening, self-advocacy, and they learn how to assert themselves in a diplomatic way.

The Kids Connecting sessions run over six weeks, and each session lasts 90 mins and involves working with the horses on the ground, learning new life skills, practicing mindfulness and stress reduction techniques, and much more. Individual needs and goals are taken into account in placing participants, and we ensure that your child is in a group that is age appropriate and gender-specific, if requested.

If you can’t make it to the group or are unsure about how a group session might fit your child’s needs, try a one-on-one session, and we can talk about the next Kids Connecting opportunity.

The sessions go for 6 weeks and are limited to 4 participants. The 90-minute sessions are held for 6 weeks at a Kalt Equine facility. The cost is $360.00 per child and is payable in full at time of booking. Please contact programs@kaltcollective.com for more information or to book.
