If you are a runner, Jo has lots of knowledge on how to manage injuries, prevent injuries and how to train. She also can help with knowledge of safe training progressions and how to monitor progress. Mainly learning to listen to your own body is vital!
Jo Hadley has over 25 years experience as a traditional physiotherapist and has worked in the UK and various locations around Australia. She has worked in private practice, sports teams, Rehabilitation hospitals and instructed Manual Handling courses and conducted ergonomic assessments in the workplace.
Jo has always had an interest in spirituality and body-mind medicine and for the past few years she has been actively learning new techniques e.g. Fascial Manipulation, mindfulness meditation etc to integrate her new holistic approach with her original physiotherapy skills set.
Jo is one of only a few people in Australia who has completed Level 3 Fascial Manipulation Technique by Stecco. It is a great series of manual therapy techniques which links the whole body together in its assessment and can treat both musculo-skeletal and internal dysfunctions. It is a safe and effective and usually quite a quick method of treatment. If the right points are treated then at least 50% improvement should be felt by the end of the session with musculo-skeletal problems and within 1-4 weeks with internal dysfunctions (they are slower as the symptoms are more visceral and slower to change).
Jo understands how our daily life stressors, emotions, past traumas and injuries etc can be affecting our health and wellbeing now and she is more interested in finding total whole body health solutions than just putting ‘band-aids’ over injuries.
Mindfulness meditation is a fantastic skill to develop for yourself to help develop resilience, self compassion, inner peace and it has been proven to help manage stress and other chronic conditions including chronic pain and chronic illnesses.
Anyone can learn to meditate and nobody does it perfectly. Meditation is different every time you practice and it is not always easy and it does not always feel relaxing. It has been demonstrated to change our brain’s neural pathways in a short time with dedicated practice of 10-40 minutes a day. It can lead us to inner peace with practice but the journey to inner peace may also need to overcome resistances and challenges from our own mind and ego.
Meditation, like an exercise, requires repetition and practice to build stronger neural connections and gain the full benefits from the practice. The practice of meditation, like any other practice, is like how a river is formed. First there are the water droplets; they form a trickle; the trickle forms a stream; the stream gets wider and deeper until it becomes like a river and the river flows to the ocean…. of consciousness….it is a process, but every part of the journey is as important, as is every droplet in the river.
Jon Kabat Zinn, the founder of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course in the USA, in his book, ‘Full Catastrophe Living’ , 2013 on page197 writes about the healing powers (healing does not mean curing) of meditation;”Healing comes out of the practice itself when it is engaged in as a way of being. Meditation is much less likely to be healing if you are using it as a way of getting somewhere, even to wholeness. From this perspective, you are already whole, so what is the point of trying to become what you already are? What is required above all is that we let go into the domain of being and reside in that wholeness with awareness, outside time. This is what is fundamentally healing.”
Jo believes in supporting you to find your own path to well being….
