Welcome to Joseph Bitar Chiropractic

Joseph has a different philosophy of chiropractic sciences. He believes in a holistic (whole) approach when examining a patient's source of pain, dysfunction or injury. Examinations with Joseph start by identifying the source of the pain followed by a bio mechanical assessment of the affected area. Finally a neurological assessment will take place to see what role the brain has in the chief complaint.

Joseph completed his first degree from the University of Sydney in Applied Vision Sciences. Wanting to study further Joseph undertook a graduate diploma in Chiropractic Sciences followed by his Masters degree from Macquarie University.

Joseph aspires to be recognised as a Sports Chiropractor and is undergoing the FIFA diploma in Football Medicine. He is also qualified for level 1 dry needling, intravenous cannulation, first aid and CPR. Joseph is also a member of the Chiropractic Association of Australia and Sports Chiropractic Australia.

Joseph has strong interests in sports and fitness and you would usually see him at the gym during his spare time. One of his passions is the art of Muay Thai and specifically traveled to Thailand for an intense training program.

Joseph has spent most of his life in the Merrylands area and considers it an honour to serve his local community.

DEEP TISSUE AND SOFT TISSUE THERAPY

Similar to a massage, deep tissue and soft tissue therapy involve a number of specialised techniques. These include trigger point release, myofascial release and cross friction. The use of these methods ensure a better road to recovery where there is muscular invovement.

TAPING

There are three types of tapes used in our clinic:

  • Kenisology tape is great for bruise recovery and works by sending  messages to the sensory motor system.

  • Dynamic tape increases the push in your range of motion by sending a propriocetive sensation to your brain via your skin and muscles. This is similar to someone pushing your muscle a little further which assists with recovery.

  • Rigid taping is used when there is a sprain or strain and we need to immobilise the joint.

PAIN MANAGEMENT AND REHABILITATION

Rehabilitation is one of the most important aspect of all the treatments and this retrains the problem area and or associated areas to get back to the pre-injury/dysfunction state to bring you back to the most painfree state viable. Rehabilitation ranges from stretches, strength and conditioning and retraining how the brain perceives pain.

ULTRASOUND THERAPY

Ultrasound therapy uses micro-vibrations which sends heat waves that penetrate to deeper tissue. These heat waves allow for the  treatment of joints, liagments and deeper muscles by destroying of adhesions in the affected areas. The heat waves and micro vibrations are not painful to those undergoing ultrasound therapy.

DRY NEEDLING

This technique is not to be confused with acupuncture (Traditional Chinese Medicine). There are similarities to acupuncture but in contrast dry needling is based on western medicine for the management of musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Dry needling involves inserting non medicated needles into trigger points of a muscle to allow relaxation and a localised inflammatory response to occur to help with the healing process.

MOBILISATION AND MANIPULATION

Manipulations is a high velocity low amplitude force that is a applied to the joint via the chiropractors hands or a chiropractic tool which helps unlock the joint allowing more free play of the joint and relaxation of the muscles and ligaments. At times when a manipulation or adjustment is not favourable a mobilisation will be performed as this is a more gentle approach which is of low velocity to guide the joint back into movement.
