When you have a Bowen treatment at Jacaranda Bowen Therapy, you will find that it is a multidimensional and holistic approach to pain relief and healing that research has shown has achieved remarkable results over the past 50 years.

Bowen is named for its founder, Tom Bowen, who lived and practiced in Geelong, Victoria. He discovered that the underlying cause or source of many musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, neurological and other health or pain problems could be found in the soft tissue or fascia.

Fascia is a specific type of connective tissue that forms a three dimensional web surrounding every tissue in the body. Fascia can be thought of as the “body organiser” because it embraces all nerves, bones, arteries, veins and muscles. Therefore, fascial dysfunction can affect every structure, muscle, nerve and organ in the body.

Using specific soft tissue or fascial release and integration techniques, Bowen Therapy stimulates specific receptors that enable the body itself to correct dysfunctions and restore homeostasis (balance) holistically.

By treating the cause rather than the symptoms, Bowen Therapy has consistently shown that the principal benefit is the fast and often long term or permanent remission of pain.

Bowen Therapy may also help improve mobility, circulation and lymphatic drainage. It can also help improve the physical and emotional quality of life, relieving pain and reducing stress even where other types of treatment have resulted in transient or minimal improvement. This is because Bowen Therapy can work to rebalance the autonomic nervous system, getting our sympathetic and parasympathetic systems to work together again, contributing to stress reduction, helping to restore optimum health.

Before commencing your Bowen treatment, your Therapist will spend some time consulting with you then will ask you to lie down clothed while the she carefully applies a series of gentle movements along specific regions of the body and in accordance with your prior consultation.

And of course an important factor of Bowen is it has few contraindications. It is gentle and non-invasive involving no manipulation. Therefore, Bowen Therapy is ideal for everyone including children and the aged.
