Clinical Supervision
Nurses in Australia are required to participate in continuing professional development and education, in order to register with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia.
Clinical Supervision is a specialised form of professional development which provides health professionals with an opportunity to reflect on their practice, professional goals and direction, and to recognise any educational needs.
It involves meeting with a qualified Clinical Supervisor on a regular basis to discuss your clinical practice, and to discern ways of developing and improving your practice.
Clinical supervision is a formal, structured process of professional support, learning and reflective practice. It assists with:
- understanding issues associated with practice
- developing new insights and perspectives
- improving knowledge, skills and competence
- enhancing support for staff while improving consumer and carer outcome
- professional accountability and autonomy.
Ideally, your Clinical Supervisor is independent from your workplace, has qualifications in Clinical Supervision and personally engages in Clinical Supervision.
Kerrie has trained in Clinical Supervision with Sue O'Sullivan and Michael Carroll
Research has shown Clinical Supervision to be effective in reducing the incidence of burnout .
