About Lauren

I first discovered kinesiology about five years ago. It has had many benefits for me personally and my family members. I had not sleeping well and feeling stressed about my work performance. I also suffered from reflux and other digestive problems for many years even though my diet was balanced and nutritional, or so I thought!

I felt tired, had sore muscles, headaches and found it difficult to relax and wind down at night. Only after two balances from a qualified practitioner I immediately felt different, more calm and relaxed. I began sleeping much better and felt more equipped to deal with my work and family commitments. Since changing my diet I have noticed greater mental alertness, improved metabolism, less tiredness and greater overall health and wellbeing in myself.

My partner suffers from chronic arthritic joint pain and has noticed a great improvement from having kinesiology treatment; less pain and more movement in the joints. He also sufferers from regular attacks of gout and with treatment he can find immediate relief. Both of my children suffered from attention and learning difficulties, anxiety, digestive and skin problems. After a few sessions they too felt calmer, focused and more confident in

I spent many years working in the community services sector working with in a wide variety of people from children, young people and the elderly. I have been in a number of different roles working directly with disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

I have a background in community development, counselling and direct service delivery to families and children. More recently, prior to studying kinesiology, I was a case manager in an early intervention program with a focus on therapeutic work with children to address their emotional health and well-being. This involved family support, counselling, practical assistance, advocacy and group work programs. In most cases there were issues of mental health, alcohol and or drug dependency, and family violence.

I came across many children and adults who struggled cognitively, behaviourally, emotionally, and socially. Trauma, injuries, disabilities, poverty, learning difficulties and mental illness impaired their ability to function well in these areas. Often the children in these families are labelled as uncontrollable, disruptive or just too difficult because they were unable to self-regulate and self soothe appropriately.

When you are state of hyper arousal your survival mechanism in the brain is switched on. This stress alters the electrical impulses all through the body, activates the fight/flight response and messages in the brain become impaired.

The work I was doing with these families was wonderful and I was achieving great outcomes. However, I felt there was more I could do to help them.

Due to the success that kinesiology had with me, my family and some of the children I worked with led me study Kinesiology and Mind Body Medicine. I noticed that this modality coupled with other therapies could potentially address core issues quicker and more effectively. The brain is an amazing organ and has the capacity to rebuild neural pathways under the right conditions.

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a complimentary therapeutic modality that involves a system of health care combining ancient eastern healing arts with western style muscle monitoring. The main tool used is muscle biofeedback. This allows the practitioner to observe the physiological responses to mental, emotional, chemical and physical conditions that may be causing stress or an imbalance in the body. It is a gentle yet powerful, non-invasive therapy.

The muscle being monitored may respond with a lock or unlock because of a disturbance occurring at any functional level of the body. Something has interfered with the integrity of the neurological flow between the muscle and the central nervous system, such as pain or an uncomfortable thought or emotion.

Kinesiology is a system that applies methods, rules, principles and logical techniques, as well as direct interaction between practitioner and client. It involves the practitioner intuitively facilitating the client’s muscle responses which will direct them to the cause of the problem and the appropriate therapy to resolve it.

Just as each person is unique, so is each treatment. Some people will notice changes immediately and for others it may take a number of treatments. The idea is not to “fix” or “cure” but rather participate on a journey of discovery to find the symptoms that each individual client may present with and work together to bring the body back to optimum health.

Our mind-body naturally seeks an overall sense of balance. A major component of kinesiology is to help identify the possible underlying cause of the stressor and unlock subconscious information held in the structures of the mind-body and find the best possible correction technique to promote the healing process.

How can Kinesiology help?

It has many health benefits and works with well with western medical interventions and other complimentary therapies like Bowen, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and many more. Through the use of various balancing options and stress release techniques, Kinesiology has proven to be an effective modality in improving emotional and physical health. Once we know the motivation behind the behaviour, we are well on the way to releasing emotional blockages and unhelpful patterns.

When we are feeling more relaxed and less stressed we are more likely to recover from illness faster because our energy system is flowing and not slowed down. We are more likely to feel motivated to eat more nutritional food and take regular exercise. When we are stressed it alters the electrical impulses all through the body and our fight/flight response becomes activated and messages in the brain get scrambled. Kinesiology can help by stimulating acupressure points thus restoring energy flow, brain integration, rational thinking and improving all aspects of health and well being.

Kinesiologists are trained to work on improving health and well-being by encouraging the client’s capacity to change stress patterns to allow healing to take place. They work with a wide range of issues; the release of emotional stress, relief of muscular pain, elimination of allergies and food sensitivities and addictions. They operate more as a facilitator of the person’s wish to be healed and follow a set of indicators provided through that person’s muscle response.

What to expect

The skills and knowledge I have gained from my personal life, studies and experience in counselling provides me with the right combination of abilities to help my clients achieve the best possible life they desire.

My aim is to help support healthier mind and body outcomes for my clients and hold the space for those that need healing to find their own way in their own time. I hope that in that space they will feel inspired to take even better care of themselves and their loved ones.

It’s important that they have come to a place in their lives where they are prepared to address underlying stress patterns in order to change and grow so that they may be able to promote their healing process.

Holistic, natural healing is different for everybody and no two people will have the same experience. For some they will see immediate results and flow easily into changes that support their health. For others it make take longer and they may have face a number of challenges on the way. Either way it is a personal yet powerful journey to wellness and inner peace. I am still surprised by the results and hopefully you will too!
