What Is Reflexology?
The idea behind reflexology is not new, it goes back thousands of years. In fact, it was practiced by many old cultures; the Chinese, Japanese, Indians, Russians and Egyptians. They believed that working on the hands and the feet would promote good health.
Reflexology was brought back into the current day by Eunice Ingham in the 1930′s and she started teaching in 1942, where it is now a worldwide healing practice.

How Does Reflexology Work?
It is an ancient technique, that is based on the principle that there are nerve reflexes in the feet, hands or head that connect through channels of energy to every part, gland or organ in the body.
Reflexologists specify that there are 10 energy zones that run the length of the body – from head to toe. All the organs and parts of the body, lie along one or more of these zones. So, by stimulating pressure points or massaging certain areas, the entire zone of the body is affected. For instance, working the area where the kidney lies will release energy that may be blocked somewhere else in that zone, such as the eyes.
The principles are very similar to acupressure, in that it works the body’s energy flow to stimulate self-healing and maintain balance in physical function. The body will release any tension and help the body to seek its own equilibrium and restore the flow of energy throughout the entire body. As it helps the body be in a relaxed state, this allows all the systems of the body to work more efficiently.
What Will Happen During a Session?
A treatment is different for each person. You will be lying down on a massage table, fully clothed. The feet will then cleaned and then each foot will be massaged following a specific procedure. There may be some tender spots as pressure is applied on the reflexpoints. These are areas in which there may be blockages, not just physically, also emotionally or mentally. Some clients fall asleep while others will relax with their eyes closed.
