Therapeutic Counselling for Children

Children 3 to 8 years of age respond to therapeutic interventions that do not require them to use their cognitive and verbal skills, Indigo Awakenings focuses on the modalities of, Play and Sand and Symbols Therapy. Children use their play time as their most effective method of expression. By analysing how they play and the certain themese that become evident, we are able to see what they are concerned with at conscious our unconscious levels. They work through, act out and solve complex issues non-verbally at their own pace. Through play Children are capable of developing mastery over fears, confusion and challenges. Confidence and new information is developed throughout this process which can be applied to real situations. When playing, children release and express emotions that have been held within effectively allowing them to move forward to a happier state of mind and peaceful behaviour.

Children and young people from 8 years have a wider variety of treatment that they are exposed to, including; Sand and Symbols, Music and Movement Therapy and Art Therapy. Therapies that require verbal communication quite frequently are uncomfortable and confronting for older children and young people nearing adolescence. Creative therapies provide the child with a sense of fun, sensory and tactile experiences that often activate a child's ability to focus allow sensitive children to find inner calm. A variety of options for expression are available for what we know is a child's unique personality and learning style.

Meditation, Movement and Music groups

Children:  60 minutes


  • Introduction, explanation of activities, sharing and question time - 10 minutes.

  • Learning how to breathe activities – 5 minutes

  • Meditation – 10 minutes

  • Processing mediation activity – art work or general discussion – 10 minutes.

  • Music and movement  – 15 minutes

  • Cool down, processing discussion, breathing – 10 minutes.
