How Can Chiropractic Help Me?
Achieving your best potential in health, as well as in life, are reasonable and valid goals to have. At Hyperdome Chiropractic we specialise in on-going preventive and family wellness care, where being the best you can ever be is our central focus. This kind of chiropractic care is highly effective and rewarding for people of all ages and walks of life, from infants to the elderly.
Correcting the cause of a problem is logical in life as well as in healing. Our primary intention and goal is therefore to make you stronger, healthier and happier and as well as you have ever been in your life. With a fully functioning spine and nervous system you are then free to reach your fullest potential in life.
Adjustment explained
The key to chiropractic care is the spinal adjustment. This is the way doctors of chiropractic correct subluxations and regular or periodic adjustments can then keep you healthy and well.
Spinal adjustment and chiropractic adjustment are terms used by chiropractors to describe a gentle and specific thrust with the intention of correcting spinal misalignments that interfere with the life force of the body that is carried through the nerves to all parts of the body.
The definition of this procedure describes the use of a load (force) to specific body tissues with therapeutic intent. This ‘load’ is traditionally used by hand, and can vary in its velocity, amplitude, duration, frequency, and body location. This intention forms the legal and philosophical foundation of the profession.
What to Expect - Your first visits
You have decided to see a chiropractor but you know little about chiropractic care and aren't sure what to expect. This brief summary will walk you through the process.
Different chiropractic clinics employ a variety of different techniques, but most clinics offer standard procedures that are widely accepted in chiropractic circles.
At Hyperdome Chiropractic our chiropractors had received five years of university training and follow accepted clinical procedures.
The reason we have adopted the following protocol is that we need to:
1.Collect your case information (i.e. history, examination and x-rays, etc.).
2.Interpret this information and decide (a) can we accept your case, and (b) what specific adjustments best suit your case.
3.Report general and specific findings to you, make an adjustment, and allow your body to respond to that adjustment.
4.Make recommendations based on 1-3 above, and explain your options so you can make an informed decision about your care.
The first visit will take about an hour. You will view a short but comprehensive information video then there will be a simple physical exam where baseline health data will be collected. This data is used to monitor future physical changes we get with treatment. (video picture)
We will need some basic information about your problem that will help us identify a cause for your problem, so the chiropractor will take a case history and identify likely subluxation areas to be addressed during the chiropractic examination.
The physical examination will generally be performed through light clothing. It may include observation of posture and range of motion, strength testing and palpation of the spine, joint movement, and soft tissues.
Depending on your specific situation, your doctor may perform X-rays and/or refer you for other diagnostic tests.
The doctor will need time to put all this information together, form a diagnosis and an appropriate course of treatment.
Your next visit will be your First Report. After a short report which may be given in a small group, the chiropractor will read your x-rays for you in a separate consultation room, explain relevant findings and answer any questions you may have.
With all the findings understood, and if the doctor can accept your case, then an adjustment can be performed. There is no charge for the Report of Findings. There is a fee for the adjustment.
Please allow an hour or so for each of your report visits.
On your second report your doctor will go over his best recommendations for care, as well as what you will need to do to help you both get the best results possible in your case.
You may want your spouse or significant partner or a parent to attend this report with you so they can understand your problem (you don’t have to explain it to them!), and they can ask any questions they may have regarding your case.
We have found that it dramatically increases your chances of success if your family is ‘on side’ with your care as their support is a very helpful influence on your outcome. Skeptics are welcome!
Parents or legal guardians must attend if the patient is under 18 years of age.
An adjustment after this time is at the standard office fee and cost effective payment programs will be available.
Why X-rays?
X-rays were discovered soon after the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895. Today the chiropractic profession is a leader in spinal imaging as well as the minimisation of x-ray exposure and patient safety.
X-rays play a vital role in chiropractic as they allow chiropractors to view your bones and joints and some soft tissues with exceptional clarity. We can then assess the alignment of your spine accurately and therefore deliver an appropriate diagnosis.
Chiropractic x-rays are required to be taken while the patient is in an upright position so we can see how the spine looks under the effects of gravity.
Are x-rays dangerous?
The radiation dose to patients in the 21st century is a tiny fraction of what it was only a few decades ago. The slight risks of radiation exposure are balanced with the benefit that will arise from the information on your films and the accuracy of subsequent adjustments.
At Hyperdome Chiropractic our x-ray unit is inspected regularly and meets all government and regulatory standards. Our digital x-ray processing unit is state-of-the-art and the type of x-ray film and imaging screens we use keep the radiation dose to a minimum.
