My work as a psychotherapist/counsellor is based on good knowledge of theory and therapeutic modalities. I draw on many influences in particular existential philosophy, family systems theory and narrative conversations. I tend to use a strengths based approach and am increasingly drawn to using mindfulness practices to assist clients in creating more fulfilling ways of living. Most importantly though I believe it is the relationship between the therapist and the client that leads the client to feeling better, more hopeful and better able to deal with the uncertainties of life.
I offer a safe space for individual counselling and psychotherapy where you can tell your story, whatever it may be, and experience being truly listened to in a non-judgemental way. For some clients this may be the first time they feel properly heard. Through our conversations I encourage a different kind of reflection which hopefully leads you to greater awareness and clarity around troubling events, influences and choices you have made in your life. With a new perspective and greater insight, possibilities will hopefully emerge for you to become more the person you wish to be and better able to live your life in keeping with your own values and beliefs.
We all struggle at times in our lives. This might be with difficulties in our intimate relationships or relationships at work. Perhaps you are troubled by events in the past that continue to impact the present, or find that you are stuck in behavioural patterns that don’t work for you anymore. Maybe you experience anxiety, depression, feelings of guilt and regret or you might be suffering with grief and loss. Are you at a crossroads in your life and uncertain which direction to take? At times it can seem impossible to find a way out of our troubles or to find meaning in life. At these times it can be very helpful to come for counselling where together we can find a way forward out of your troubles.
As each person is unique my counselling sessions vary to meet the individual needs of each client. There is no set pattern or formula I follow. Some clients find a couple of sessions is all they need whereas others continue for longer.
